via FSC press release   LAKELAND, FL – Florida Southern College women’s lacrosse remained unbeaten with a pair of dominating victories on Monday. The No. 1 Moccasins (6-0) picked up a 23-10 win over Young Harris on Monday morning and followed that up with a 20-0 victory over Westminster in the afternoon. Shannon Gilfedder and Emily Santoli scored four goals each in the first game, while seven different players tallied at least two goals in the final game of the day. The 20-0 blanking of the Titans (0-1) is the Mocs’ largest margin of victory since defeating Chowan by a 26-6 score on April 1, 2012, and is tied for the second-largest margin of victory in school history. Florida Southern improved to 3-0 all-time against Young Harris and handed the Mountain Lions (5-1) their first loss of the season. HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST YOUNG HARRIS • Florida Southern raced out to a 4-0 lead in the first three minutes of play. Sarah Grady scored the first goal of the contest off an assist by Dani Bursinger just eight seconds after the opening draw, and Gilfedder, Santoli, and Marina Jozokos would each find the back of the net before the clock hit 27:00 in the first half. • Santoli would strike again from a free-position attempt to make it 5-0 with 23:52 to go in the opening period. After the Mountain Lions got on the board with 22:00 on the clock, the Moccasins responded with three-straight goals to jump in front by seven (8-1) at the 17:18 mark of the first half. Young Harris scored five more times before the end of the half, but not before the Mocs put the ball in the back of the net six more times to take a commanding 14-6 lead at the half. • The outcome was never in doubt in the second half, as Florida Southern outscored the Mountain Lions 9-4 over the final 30 minutes of action to surpass the 20-goal mark for the third-straight game and the fourth time this season. • In addition to Gilfedder and Santoli, Marina Jozokos (3), Shannon Mazza (2) and Bursinger (2) each scored multiple goals, while Meghan O’Brien added one goal and four assists. Julia Couch finished with three assists, Sam Keesey and Micaela Gatelysnagged five ground balls, while Mary Gately and Brittany Iamele each played 30 minutes in goal. The Mocs outshot the Mountain Lions 50-22,converted5-of-6 free-position shots, and completed 20-of-22 clear attempts. HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST WESTMINSTER • In the second game on Monday, the Moccasins dominated from start to finish. Florida Southern scored five times in the first four minutes of play and held the Titans to just three shots over the entire contest. Molly Berend opened the scoring with a goal at the 29:12 mark of the first half, while Grace Glinecki scored twice within a 22-second span to make it 3-0. Cassie Brown and Brianna Becker also scored in the first four minutes of play. • The Mocs led by a 15-0 score at halftime and backed off significantly in the second half. Florida Southern held onto the ball for the vast majority of the final period and, although the Moccasins scored five more times, FSC did not put much offensive or defensive pressure on the Titans. • Brown led the Mocs with three goals, while Berend, Glinecki, Olivia Griffith, Abby Joselyn, Ashley Norberg and Amy Tracy each scored two goals. Berend also added three assists, while Ally Loudon had two. Abbi Harrah tallied five draw controls, and Iamele played the entire game in goal and stopped the other three shots she faced. UP NEXT • Florida Southern’s schedule gets significantly more difficult this week as the Mocs will host No. 10 Queens at 12 p.m. on Thursday before closing out the week against No. 9 Mercy at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The Moccasins cap off an eight-game home stretch on March 14 against No. 21 McKendree.
