via FSC press release   BOX SCORE LAKELAND, FL – Florida Southern College women’s lacrosse picked up win number seven in a row with a 23-7 victory over Belmont Abbey on Thursday night at Moccasin Field. The Mocs (8-1, 1-0 SSC) opened with a 7-0 run over the Crusaders (5-6, 3-1 CC). Riley Bannatyne led the offense with four goals, Maliah Benedetto, Gracie Maganzini, and Catherine DeKorte add on three more each for the Mocs. Three more Mocs had a pair of goals each while another four found the back of the net. HOW IT HAPPENED •  Julia Couch opened the scoring for the Mocs just 30 seconds into the game. Couch assisted on Brenna Smiths first of three goals on the night at the 28:51 mark of the first half. Bannatyne would score two for the Mocs as Dani Bursinger score both of her goals in between the two goals from Riley. DeKorte put one past the Crusaders goalie before Kylie Eastman scored the first goal for Belmont Abbey. The two teams would trade goals over the next two minutes as Maganzini recorded both Moccasin goals in that span. Belmont Abbey would score consecutive goals for the first time in the game as Katie Call recorded two goals in less than two minutes. Florida Southern closed out the first half on a 3-0 run with a goal from DeKorte followed up by back-to-back goals from Sarah Grady. The Mocs took a 14-6 advantage to halftime. • Bannatyne began the second half scoring with a goal just three seconds into the half for the Mocs 15th goal on the night. M. Benedetto would put two past the visiting goalie with an Aubriana Benedetto goal sandwiched between her sister’s goals. Belmont Abbey would end an 11-0 run by the Mocs as Angelina Perrone scored the final Crusaders goal at the 8:51 mark. Molly Berend would score the final goal for the home team with just 30 seconds left on the clock, which would turn out to be the final play of the game since time expired due to the running clock. INSIDE THE NUMBERS • Florida Southern extended its all-time record against Belmont Abbey to 3-0, with a 2-0 record in Lakeland and a 1-0 record in Belmont. • The Mocs defense limited the opposition to a mere five shots in the second half. All three goalies saw action in net for the Mocs as starter Patricia Werker and Brittany Iamele each made three saves. Alanna Zambetti also made a save for the Mocs. Florida Southern won 24 of 31 draw controls. • Florida Southern picked up 19 ground balls to 10 by Belmont Abbey. The Mocs converted 16 successful clears on 19 attempts. • The Mocs fired off 40 shots, 34 of which were on goal. 14 of the Crusaders 17 shots were on goal. Florida Southern caused seven turnovers as Belmont Abbey had 14 turnovers on the afternoon.
