Game Preview: Launch Face Off Against League Rivals New York!

via the Launch press release   The last time the Florida Launch and the New York Lizards met, the Long Island-based team took down Florida in a 14-13 heartbreaker at FAU Stadium. But, in their second meeting of the season this Saturday, June 9, the Launch aim to flip the script and bring home a W. After sweeping their league rivals last season, the Launch took a commanding lead in the all-time series record, going 6-3 over New York. But, with last year’s losses fresh in their mind, the Lizards refused to let history repeat itself. Despite falling to New York in their last meeting, attackman Kieran McArdle and Dylan Molloy had standout performances, with McArdle netting five goals and one assist and Molloy scoring four goals. Defensively, P.T. Ricci led the pack, forcing two turnovers and collecting three ground balls. Faceoff specialist and Syracuse alum, Ben Williams dominated at the X, winning 19 out of the 29 faceoffs. But, even though the Launch will be on the road this week, for many members of the team, this Saturday will feel like a true home game despite being miles away from Boca Raton. With eight members of the Launch calling Long Island home, the ability to play in front of familiar faces gives this matchup even more importance. For midfielder Mike Unterstein, not only will he be playing in front of his home crowd, but also playing against a very close family member, his identical twin brother, Kevin. Kevin is a midfielder for the Lizards and the Launch-Lizards rivalry goes beyond the game. Each time the Launch find themselves facing off against New York, Kevin and Mike always find a way to create some chaos on the field. In a memorable play for both, the last time these two met on the field at FAU Stadium in May, Kevin took Mike down to the ground, right as he was going to goal, starting a lively interaction in front of the Lizards goal mid game. “My brother Kevin and I are extremely competitive. With bragging rights on the line, it is safe to say getting myself going for this game is easy,” said Unterstein, “on the field, I see him as my biggest opponent.” As far as Coach is concerned, his main focus is on consistency and execution this game. “You watch some of these games, and it comes down to a couple of plays that could go either way. We’ve got to do a better job of making sure they go our way,” said Coach Tom Mariano in an interview with LaxSportsNetwork this week.
