JU Men: Forbes Earns SoCon Offensive Player of the Week Honors

  via JU press release   SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After a pair of jaw-dropping performances at the faceoff X for Jacksonville University men’s lacrosse, senior Hunter Forbes was named Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league Tuesday afternoon. Forbes gained national recognition from the United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) following the Dolphins’ 12-7 season-opening victory over Navy on Feb. 4. Forbes won 19-of-22 face-offs against the Midshipmen, picked up 13 ground balls, and dished out a pair of assists to help propel Jacksonville’s offense. Most recently, the Woodstock, Ga. native went 18-28 with seven ground balls as the Dolphins squared up with the nation’s top team, No. 1 Duke, on Feb. 10. With 20 ground balls in the first two games this season and 161 total in his career, Forbes is closing in on the Dolphins’ all-time record of 176, set by Cameron Mann. Forbes leads the SoCon and ranks second nationally in both face off winning percentage (.740) and ground balls per game (10.00). Additionally, the Dolphins top the SoCon and rank second and sixth in the nation, respectively, in faceoff win percentage (.712) and ground balls per game (37.50). Forbes and the rest of the Dolphins return to action this weekend when they travel to Wisconsin to take on No. 17/20 Marquette. Opening faceoff is set for a 1 p.m.
