via JU press release – photo via JU web site   JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Four upperclassmen have been selected to lead Jacksonville University men’s lacrosse in the 2018 season, as seniors Ryan Beville, McLean Chicquen, Chase McIntyre, and redshirt junior Max Hartong were voted captains by their teammates, as announced by Head Coach John Galloway. “I am very proud of the four men that were selected to lead the team this season. While I believe our entire senior class carries themselves the way we want our program to be represented, these four will carry that message with fire in their hearts,” stated Galloway. “McLean and Ryan return as captains after a full season of understanding what it takes to be leaders. I expect them to take the next step as they help us build on our culture. Max and Chase have matured so much in my short time here at Jacksonville.” Chicquen and Beville served as two of the Dolphins’ five team captains in 2017. Hailing from Victoria, British Columbia, Chicquen paced JU with 35 points behind 23 goals and 12 assists, and earned Second Team All-SoCon honors following the season. Beville, a Fogelsville, Pa. native, closed out last season with a career-best 36 ground balls and four caused turnovers. “Being a captain is one of the greatest honors in sports, and I couldn’t be happier to have the privilege again,” Chicquen stated. “I learned a lot as a leader last year and I can’t wait to help take this program to new limits. I’m grateful to be able to represent JU lacrosse and I can’t wait to go to battle in 2018.” Added Beville, “Being voted captain is an amazing honor, especially here at JU for the men’s lacrosse team. Having the support and trust from the 50 guys I play with – and also my coaches – is an unexplainable feeling. I love this team and the guys involved, and I can’t wait to lead this team into the 2018 season with a full head of steam and a large amount of confidence that this will be our year.” McIntyre, a Vancouver, B.C. native and freshman during the 2014 campaign, reflected and discussed his appointment as captain four seasons later. “Being selected captain for this team is not only an honor, but a privilege. I have seen this program develop over the past five years and it has only become a more desirable place to be. We have a great new group of young guys, along with many seniors and I am extremely excited to help lead this team to the start of something special.” “I am honored to have been chosen as a captain by such a great group of guys,” added Hartong, a Canton, Ohio native who totaled five ground ball and caused six turnovers last season. “I’m proud of how hard the boys have worked this fall and extremely optimistic about what we can accomplish this spring.” “I was thrilled when their peers recognized them for their efforts,” added Galloway. “I am a lucky guy to be their coach, and look forward to working with these guys closely to help establish our culture here in Duval.” The Dolphins open up the 2018 season Feb. 4 at D.B. Milne Field against Navy, with opening face-off slated for noon.
