via Lynn press release   BOCA RATON, Fla. – The lacrosse world converges in Israel this summer for the 2018 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Lacrosse Championships, and this year, former Fighting Knights are getting in on the action. Angelo Beacon-Paglia (’17) and Tyler Martin (’16) are suiting up next week to represent their countries on the world stage, including a pool-play tilt featuring a head-to-head battle. Beacon-Paglia, a native of San Ramon, Calif., represented Lynn University for three years in the midfield. Playing a critical role as a defensive midfielder for the Fighting Knights, Beacon-Paglia collected 98 career ground balls, third-best in program history. Beacon-Paglia, whose parents hail from Argentina, sees the opportunity as a chance to represent the Fighting Knights while growing the game of lacrosse in Argentina. “It feels great to represent the team and college that made lacrosse a very important chapter of my life,” said Beacon-Paglia. “Now it’s time for me to use the experience I gained at Lynn to help grow the game down in Argentina.” Martin served as a playmaker for the Fighting Knight offense. Transferring to Lynn after a year at Kean University, Martin appeared in 14 games during his sophomore season, finishing with eight ground balls, two goals, two assists and two caused turnovers. Although Martin was a two-year member of the Blue and White squad, his time on the field was limited to one season. “Once I finished my career at Lynn, I was nowhere near satisfied.  After transferring, missing an entire season, and then graduating a year early, I never felt complete with my lacrosse career with only really playing one full season in college,” said Martin. Representing his father’s home country, Hungary, Martin is a part of the first-ever Hungarian National Lacrosse team to play at the World Lacrosse Championships. “Once I touch down in Israel and hit the practice field with my guys, it’ll feel real,” said Martin. “That being said, being able to represent my heritage is unbelievably exciting.” This year marks the first time any Fighting Knight has earned a spot on a national roster. For head coach Brian Kingsbury, having two former Lynn lacrosse players compete on the national stage serves as a chance to grow the game as well as the Lynn program. “To see Angelo and Tyler play lacrosse in Israel this summer is insane,” said Kingsbury. “Lacrosse is a great sport that is growing so fast and far. For Angelo and Tyler to represent a country where their families are from is a great honor for them. Even more so that they get to play against each other in their first game. They both are great ambassadors for Lynn University and the sport of lacrosse.” Pool play consists of 10 groups. The ‘Blue’ group features six countries – including USA – with the remaining nine groups containing three countries apiece. Hungary, Argentina and Sweden all occupy the ‘Orange’ group. The breakdown of the 10 groups can be found HERE. The action kicks off on July 12 with Argentina playing against Sweden at 11:45 a.m. IST (4:45 a.m. EST). The former Lynn lacrosse players face off against each other on July 13 at 6:45 p.m IST (11:45 a.m. EST) when Argentina takes on Hungary. Martin (#6) and Beacon-Paglia (#24) will don the same jersey numbers they sported in the Blue and White. ESPN and ESPN+ will have exclusive United States coverage of the 2018 FIL World Lacrosse Championships, beginning Thursday, July 12, through Saturday, July 21. Across 10 days of play, ESPN2 and ESPNU will combine to televise 14 matchups, with more than 160 games available on ESPN+. The event will originate from Netanya Stadium and Wingate Institute in Netanya, Israel, and will be available for fans to watch in 46 countries.
