MCLA: South Carolina Hands Florida State First Loss of Season

  via the recap written by FLN Special Correspondent Anthony Cicio   This past Sunday, the South Carolina Gamecocks came to Tallahassee and handed the Seminoles their first loss of the year, 19-5. Florida State jumped out to an early 3-0 lead to start the game. South Carolina added one before FSU quickly responded, ending the first quarter 4-1. The Gamecocks would go on a 9-1 run in the second quarter that ultimately proved to be too much for the Seminoles to overcome. South Carolina outscored Florida State 9-0 in the second half, with a final score of 19-5. Jacob Ellis led the way for South Carolina, leading all scorers on the day with 6 goals and 3 assists. His play earned him Division I Player of the Week honors from the MCLA. Offensively, freshman Reid Smith notched a hat trick for the Seminoles. Senior Davis Goodman also added a pair of goals and an assist. South Carolina improved to 6-0, while Florida State dropped to 2-1. The win also propelled the Gamecocks from unranked to No. 15 nationally in the MCLA. The loss dropped Florida State from No. 11 to No. 21 in the Under Armour Poll. The Seminoles are looking to bounce back this Friday night at 7pm.
