AMU Lacrosse Handles Webber 14-1 on Senior Day
Senior Aiyanah Simms & junior Emma Davis each register four goals in victory

AVE MARIA, Fla. – Senior Aiyanah Simms and junior Emma Davis each posted four goals to pace the Ave Maria University lacrosse team to a 14-1 victory over Webber University on Wednesday night at Gyrene Field.
The game was never in doubt as the Gyrenes took a 12-0 lead into the intermission while outshooting the Wildcats 26-8 over the initial 30 minutes. AMU scored five goals in the opening five minutes of action – three by Davis and a pair from Simms.
The game was called 18:37 seconds into the second half.
The contest marked the Gyrenes final home contest of the season and featured a pregame ceremony honoring the program’s 2021 senior class.
The victory improves Ave Maria’s overall record to 2-4 overall and 2-3 in Mid-South Conference play. Webber slips to 0-5 both overall and in conference play in what is its inaugural season of play.
Megan Dennis scored Webber’s lone goal of the contest at the 28:50 mark of the second half.
Kaylee Wesolowski made seven saves in net to earn the win for the Gyrenes. Senior Alexa Keeler added two goals in the win for AMU, while Jessica Denara, Monrae Prentice, Nieve Macedo and Emma Baughman each recorded a single tally.
AMU closes out the regular season on Saturday, April 10 at No. 2 Keiser in a game slated for a 3 p.m. EDT start. The Gyrenes will then begin the postseason with the Mid-South Tournament, which is scheduled for April 22-24 in Williamsburg, Ky.

Women’s lacrosse falls to nationally-recognized Ave Maria for second time during inaugural season
AVE MARIA, Fla. (April 7, 2021) – Playing on the road for only the second time in its inaugural season, the Webber International University women’s lacrosse team fell 14-1 against nationally-recognized Ave Maria University during the Gyrenes’ Senior Day.
It was the second loss this season for Webber (0-5 overall, 0-5 Mid-South Conference) against Ave Maria (2-4, 2-3).
Webber trailed 2-0 one minute and 10 seconds into the game and then trailed 4-0 less than three minutes in. It was then 5-0 less than five minutes in and 6-0 less than 10 minutes in.
At halftime, Webber trailed 12-0 but had three shots from
Maria Horrell, two from
Natalie Bartek and
Kaitlyn Patterson, and one from
Shannon Parker.
However, to start the second half, Webber scored first as
Megan Dennis put one into the back of the net 1:10 in for a man-down goal.
At one point in the second half, the Warriors had to play down five players before the game was ultimately ended with 11:23 left on the clock.
Charlee Lutton and Bartek both finished with two groundballs,
Daiana Casula and Lutton both had two caused turnovers, and Bartek had two draw controls.
Goalkeeper
Ashley Bosch would finish with 10 saves, giving her three games with double-digit saves in five games total so far this season.
Next week, the Warriors’ final game of the regular season will be at No. 7 Life University at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14. Then, the Mid-South Conference Tournament is set for April 22-24 in Williamsburg, Kentucky, as the Warriors will meet up with the winner of the MSC North Division.
