via Rollins press release   WINTER PARK, Fla.  (February 20, 2018) – Tied at 11-11 with 11:46 remaining in the game, the No. 11 Rollins women’s lacrosse team was unable to hold off a resilient first-ranked Adelphi University squad, falling by a final score of 15-11 on Tuesday night at Barker Family Stadium and Cahall-Sandspur Field.  The Tars trailed by five at the half, 9-4, but battled back to even the score at 11-11 late in the game before succumbing to the reigning National Champions. The loss drops the Tars to a mark of 1-2 on their young season, while the Panthers return to New York with an overall record of 1-1. Junior Kallie German led the way for Rollins, notching a team best four goals and two assists for six points on the night.  Hannah Ashton and Paige Brock each netted two goals, while Lily Rizk, Hannah Coakley, and Megan Cury each scored once.  Sophomore Maggie Dougherty matched German in assists with two, while Nikki Stumpf dished out one of her own.  Lindsay Van Beck led the Tars in three categories, with three ground balls, two caused turnovers, and three draw controls.  Matching Van Beck in draw controls won was freshman Genia Sprinkle with three of her own.  In goal, senior Malorie Olin played 59:43 minutes in goal, facing 25 shots and earning 11 saves for a save percentage of .440 on the evening as she allowed 14 goals as one of the goals notched by Adelphi was on an open net. Adelphi saw a game best five goals from Lena Riportella, followed by Kole Pollock with four goals and one assist.  Alison Johnson led the Panthers with four assists, and added two goals for six points on the night.  Michele Scannell led the game in draw controls with six, while Kaitlyn Stackpole earned a team best two caused turnovers.  Goalie Hailey Peterson led the team with five ground balls while allowing 11 goals and earning 11 saves for a save percentage of .500. HOW IT HAPPENED:

• First Half:  The Panthers opened up to a three goal lead, with Alison Johnson contributing on all three goals with a free position goal sandwiched between two assists.  German broke the run with a free position goal at the 21:57 mark, putting the Tars on the scoreboard.  Adelphi netted the next three, pulling out to a 6-1 lead with 16:09 to go in the first half, but German once again found the back of the net off of an assist by Dougherty to pull the Tars to within four, 6-2, with 15:16 on the clock.  The Panthers closed out the first half outscoring the Tars 3-2, closing out the first 30 minutes of action with Adelphi holding onto a 9-4 lead at the break.
• Second Half:  Cury and German each took advantage of man-up opportunities to open the second half, pulling the Tars to within three, 9-6, with 25:09 on the clock as they each scored in the opening minutes.  Pierce pulled Adelphi back out to a four goal lead with a goal at the 23:46 mark, but German answered back with 22:41 to go to set the score at 10-7.  A man-down by Adelphi at the 20:33 mark put the Tars in an 11-7 deficit, but Rollins was not about to back down.  The Tars fired off four straight over the ensuing minutes to tie the score at 11-11 with 11:46 to play. Despite the Tars’ best efforts in all areas of the field, Adelphi was able to capitalize on more scoring opportunities, pulling back out to a four goal lead to close out the contest with a final score of 15-11.

  NOTES:

• Adelphi now leads the overall series with the Tars, 5-0.  The first matchup between the two teams occurred on February 20, 2009, where the Panthers defeated the Tars by a score of 19-3.  All five games have been played in Florida.
• Kallie German now leads the team in both goals and assists on the season with six and five, respectively.  Matching German in overall goals so far this season is Hannah Ashton with six goals of her own.
• With her four goals this evening, German has amassed 89 career goals, which helps her climb from ninth to seventh in career record books for career goals scored.  German currently sits tied for seventh with Liz Connelly (2008-10).
• German’s two assists help her climb from fifth to fourth for career assists with 43 overall.  The junior middie now sits tied for fourth with Brittany Eveler `17, and is 42 assists back from the program’s all-time leader Katy Tyszko `11 who amassed 85 in her career.
• German has tallied a total of 37 free position goals in her career, placing her third overall in program record books.  German needs 11 more free position goals to set a new program record, currently held by Erica Pagliarulo `13 with 47.
• Van Beck’s two caused turnovers help her climb from fifth to third for career caused turnovers with 59 total.  The Atlanta, Ga. native’s 59 career caused turnovers place her in a tie for third with Erica Pagliarulo `13.
