PBA: Women’s Lax Loses 18-16 Heartbreaker to Lee

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – After scoring 13 times in the first half the Palm Beach Atlantic women’s lacrosse team was held to just three second half goals in an 18-16 loss to Lee University on Monday night.

Grace Bartlinski scored a team-high five goals with Dom Barber adding four goals and two assists on the night for PBA. Morgan LeBlanc added five points with two goals and three assists as six different players scored a goal.

The ‘Fish (1-5) fell behind early as Lee scored three of the first four goals to take a 3-1 lead just four minutes into the game. Barber scored two of her goals to even the game as the ‘Fish started a run of four straight goals. Bartlinski and Chanel Nassir each scored during the run as well.

After Lee cut the PBA lead to 5-4 with 18 minutes before halftime the Sailfish again scored four straight to push the lead back out to five. Lee worked the deficit to three before PBA scored three times in the final four minutes of the half including two goals in the final 22 seconds. Alyssa Yates scored with 22 seconds left before Barber scored with just four seconds before halftime. That goal gave PBA a 13-7 lead heading into the break.

In the second half Lee scored four straight and nine of 10 to take a 16-14 lead with 10 minutes to go. Barber and Barlinski brought the ‘Fish even at 16-16 with a goal each. Lee answered as Becca Broadwick scored with 2:46 to go – her eighth of the game – to give the Flames the lead. Another goal a minute later put a comeback out of reach for the Sailfish.

Barber led PBA with five groundballs, four caused turnovers and four draw controls.

The Sailfish are back in action on Wednesday to host North Greenville at 7 p.m.
