Pine Crest 2020 Jordan Vital Commits to the University of Chicago!

Congratulations to Jordan on her college choice and good luck in the future!   Name Jordan Vital High School Pine Crest Graduation Year 2020 College Choice University of Chicago Club Affiliations Lax Maniax 2020 Black Why did you choose this college? I chose the University of Chicago because of the tremendous education that it will provide me while living in a world class city. The opportunity to study under some of the very best Business and Economics leaders (Booth/Dougan Scholars) made the choice a fairly easy one. Regarding lacrosse–having the good fortune to be able to play competitive lacrosse (Div 3) with other like-minded students for UChicago Coaches Kate Robinson and Randy Vite is an amazing bonus. I am looking forward to being part of a UChicago team whose culture values success both athletically and academically. What are your first memories of the sport? My first memories was as a 9 year-old having a throwing/catching session with my dad. My dad insisted that my dominant hand (right) was the one that I use to eat and write. I told him, that the process of catching/throwing felt better with my left hand. After about half hour of trying to convince me otherwise, he relented, as I was so awful with either hand. End of story is today, my right hand is my dominant hand in every activity, except for lacrosse. What part of the process was most surprising to you about the recruiting process and what would you like to pass on to those who are going to face it in the future? Nothing about the process was surprising as Coach Sarah (Gooey) Burlingame (Lax Maniax) educated me on what to expect. I would recommend to all prospective student athletes to: 1. Find a good travel team and coach that is well versed in the process. 2. Work hard academically in every grade. What you do in middle school affects your class opportunity for 9th grade and beyond. Take classes that will challenge you. 3. Pick a college/university based on academics and then lacrosse. 4. Prepare early for the ACT/SAT (find a good tutor). 5. Pick your top 3 schools and if possible, attend their summer lacrosse camps. 6. Be a good teammate. 7. Have fun as it goes by fast ! Who would you like to thank for helping you get here? My main coaches, Coach Gooey Burlingame (Lax Maniax) and Eileen Pliske/Terry Docal (Pine Crest)– all wonderful leaders who have been instrumental in helping shape who I am as a lacrosse player and person. My Laxmaniax and Pine Crest teammates for being terrific teammates and making the game fun for me. My Pine Crest teachers for challenging me in a rigorous yet nurturing environment each and every day since elementary school. My parents, Chris & Frantz for giving me the opportunity to attend Pine Crest and play on LaxManiax. Their commitment financially and more importantly, with their TIME has been remarkable. I will forever be grateful to them for giving me the space to truly “live my best life”.
