Rollins Men: Tars Roll to 22-8 Regional Win over Colorado State-Pueblo

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 17, 2019) – The Rollins men’s lacrosse team saw 16 players score goals, with 12 contributing assists as the Tars made easy work of Colorado State-Pueblo in a 22-8 regional victory on Sunday afternoon at Cahall-Sandspur Field.  The win marks the fifth-straight for the Tars, and advances them to a record of 6-1 overall, while the Thunderwolves swallow their first loss of the season and drop to 3-1.

The Tars saw three goals each from Ryan Dunn and Eric NeCamp, followed by two goals each from Greg Taicher and Tommy Keane.  Kyle PorteraDavis MoshierDave GollenbergDrew MillerJoey CinqueKyle SudolJackson CollingMarshall EllisonAdam ScalisiCam ReevesChase Snyder, and Bailey Pringle all scored one goal apiece.  Dunn led the team in assists with three, for a six point performance on the afternoon.  Taicher tallied two assists of his own while Blake BuellJackson BuellSawyer CairnsNick Evangelista, Keane, Moshier, and Parker Mosack all dished out one assist each.  In total, 22 different players contributed to the Tars’ scoring efforts on the day.  Rollins conquered a team that entered into the game with a .678 win percentage, holding their opponent to a win percentage of .273 on the afternoon thanks to Kyle Sudol (9-of-13), Cam Reeves (7-of-8), and Jake Jones (8-of-11).  Snyder led the team in ground balls with five, followed by Sudol, Harrison Bluestein, and Jones with four apiece.  Evan Schimek earned a team best three caused turnovers, followed b Bluestein with two.  In goal, the Tars saw Will Eckert play 45 minutes, where he faced nine shots for five saves while allowing four goals.  Ty Wedekind saw 9:40 minutes between the pipes, facing three shots and allowing all to slip past.  Freshman TJ Donahue closed out the game in cage, facing two shots in 5:20 minutes of action, where he earned one save while allowing one goal.

Rollins dominated the game in every aspect, including leading the shot count 58-25, winning more ground balls, 57-25, winning 24-of-33 faceoff attempts, and holding the Thunderwolves to 13 successful clears on 22 attempts.

Colorado State-Pueblo saw a game high five goals from Taylor Davis, who added an assist for six points on the afternoon.  Caleb Cole led the team with two assists, while Anthony Ferrie scored two goals.  Tommy Vassallo notched a goal and an assist, while Weston Bartgis closed out the Thunderwolves’ scoring efforts with an assist of his own.  Michael DeMaio led the team in ground balls with six, followed by Jacob Muir and Cole with three each, with Muir winning 7-of-20 faceoff attempts.  Faurest Vedral, Parker Evans, and Ethan Ferrie all earned one caused turnovers.  In goal, Garrett Breeling played 47:16 minutes between the pipes, facing 39 shots where he earned 19 saves while allowing 20 goals.  Ethan Ferrie closed out the contest in goal for the Thunderwolves, facing five shots where he earned three saves while allowing two goals.

How it Happened:

Rollins got the ball rolling early, scoring off of an unassisted goal by Keane just 37 seconds in to take an early 1-0 lead.  The Tars added their second goal two minutes later to pull ahead 2-0, but back-to-back goals by the Thunderwolves evened the score at 2-2 with 7:29 on the clock in the first quarter.  A goal by NeCamp off of an assist by Schimek with 5:30 left in the quarter ignited a three goal run by Rollins, which was capped off by a late Colorado State-Pueblo goal with 27 ticks on the clock to close out the first period with the Tars holding onto a 5-3 lead.  Rollins rolled through the second quarter, outscoring the Thunderwolves 7-1 to hold onto a 12-4 lead at halftime, and made easy work of their opponent in the third quarter as they held the Thunderwolves silent while pouring on six more goals for an 18-4 lead entering into the final quarter.  Both teams netted four goals each throughout the final 15 minutes, closing out the game with the Tars earning the 22-8 victory.
