via Rollins press release   WINTER PARK, Fla.  (February 23, 2018) – Sophomore midfielder Lily Rizk scored 61 seconds into the game and the Tars never looked back as the Rollins women’s lacrosse team routed Catawba College by a final score of 16-5 on Friday night at Shuford Stadium. The win advances the Tars to a record of 2-2 on the season, while Catawba drops to 2-3 overall. Junior Kallie German led the game with four goals and three assists for a total of seven points.  Behind German, Hannah Ashton earned a hat trick and an assist, while Nikki Stumpfnotched two goals and an assist. Paige Brock added two goals of her own, while Hannah Coakley tallied two points with a goal and an assist.  Lily Rizk, Lindsay Van Beck, Julianna Desimone, and Hannah Forbes all scored one goal each, while Megan Cury, and Haley Brock contributed one assist each.  Maggie Dougherty and Sophie Stavisky led the Tars with two ground balls apiece, with Dougherty adding four draw controls to her night.  Freshman Genia Sprinkle led the game with seven draw controls.  Haley Brock earned a team high two caused turnovers.  In goal, Mal Olin earned the start where she faced six shots, earning one save while allowing just two goals.  Sarah Neely closed out the game in goal, facing 11 shots, earning six saves, and allowing just three goals in 30 minutes of action. Catawba saw five players score one goal apiece, as Katie Barth, Erin Green, Gianna Pezzulo, Imani Grays, and Jillian Kurolvech each found the back of the net.  Nicole Hunt led the team in assists with two, while Pezzulo notched two points on the night as she added an assist of her own.  Hunt led the team in ground balls with four, while Brooklyn Tilley and Brooke Applebaum each earned a team best three draw controls.  Hunt also led the team in caused turnovers with three on the night  In goal, Madison Anselmo played 40 minutes, facing 27 shots and earning five saves while allowing 15 goals.  Grace Brennen closed out the final 20 minutes, facing three shots while earning one save and allowing one goal. HOW IT HAPPENED:

• First Half:  Risk scored at the 28:59 mark to give Rollins the 1-0 lead just 61 seconds into the game, but the Indians answered back with a goal by Grays at the 25:29 mark to tie the game at 1-1.  Rollins regained their footing, scoring the next seven to take an 8-1 lead with 8:35 to play in the first period, but Catawba halted the run with a goal by Kurlovech with 6:38 remaining in the half.  The Tars didn’t let the Indian goal bother them, though, notching tow more to close out the first half with a 10-2 lead.
• Second Half:  Rollins opened up the second half with five straight goals, taking a 15-2 lead with 20:11 left in the game.  Catawba netted the next three, setting the score at 15-5 with 4:10 to play, but the Tars closed out the game with one last point thanks to an unassisted goal by Desimone with 1:20 left in the game, closing out the South Region contest with a score of 16-5.

  NOTES:

• The Tars sit 11th on the IWLCA Division II Preseason Poll, and sit 16th on the NIKE/US Lacrosse Division II Top 20.
• Rollins now holds onto a 2-0 record against Catawba in the program series.  The last time the two teams matched up in official competition was on February 19, 2012, where the Tars earned a 22-2 win over the Indians in Salisbury, N.C.
