Rollins Women: Tars Easily Handle Montevallo Falcons 20-4 to Open Season

(January 31, 2019) – The Tars started their 2020 campaign with a dominating performance against Montevallo, dismantling the Falcons 20-4.  The Tars start the season 1-0 for the 11th time in 13 seasons.  Montevallo falls to 0-1 on the year. Senior Lily Rizk led the Tars, netting four goals, and tallying one assist for a total of five points.  Liz Fahey recorded a hat-trick, while Eden Cooke started her junior season with three points, on two goals and one assist.  Freshman Abigail CawleySammy Ottimo, and Hannah Ashton each put the ball in the net twice.  Piper Trattner dished out two helpers to lead the squad.  Gabby Tanner made one save, facing only five shots. Anja Kuys registered three goals for the Falcons.  Janey Johnson, the career assist leader for Montevallo, tallied the only assist of the day.  Kay Tirrell made ten saves between the pipes for the Falcons. Rollins captain Rizk kicked off the barrage with a pair of goals in the first two minutes of action.  The senior finished the first half with three goals.  The Falcons lone goal made the score 3-1 just after the 25 minute mark.  Abigail Cawley scored her first collegiate goal to right the ship, as the Tars scored 11 straight goals to end the half. Fahey and Lily Thornewill also registered their first scores in Blue and Gold, while Hannah Aston found the back of the net twice in the half. The Falcons scored first in the second half, but the Tars quickly put any though of a comeback to bed with a four goal run of their own. Cooke started the run; Rizk tallied her fourth, and Liz Fahey completed her hat-trick to make in 18-2.  The two teams traded scores over the last 13 minutes, as Rollins saw out the victory. Notes:
  • This was the first ever meeting between Rollins and Montevallo.  The Tars sit at 1-0 against the Falcons
  • Rizk’s four goals ties a career high.  Her five points are a new career best.
  • Dennis Short, the only coach in the 13 year history of Rollins women’s lacrosse, now sits with a 146-54 overall record.
