Noteworthy events during game
Jupiter visited Benjamin as the teams renewed their rivalry, playing for the first time since the district championship game in April of 2019. This time the game took on a battle for bragging rights as the teams are no longer in the same district. With both teams ranked at or near the top of their respective class state polls, the intensity on the field was a reminder of why this is the best rivalry in Florida high school lacrosse. Even with the attendance restrictions, the atmosphere was a reminder these players and families love the game.
Benjamin got off to an early 3-1 lead behind a pair of Brady Quinn goals. A few minutes into the 2nd quarter, Jupiter’s offense settled into rhythm and answered with a 5-0 run before Benjamin’s Dominick DeVito’s first of his two goals closed the first half scoring with Jupiter leading 6-4. Jupiter led the remainder of the game.
Jupiter’s offense, led by Jackson Bashaw’s 4 goals and 2 assists, showed patience and solid ball movement as 7 different players scored and the team tallied 8 assists. A key in the game was Jupiter’s defense, led by Reef Kabalin and Jake Pelchen, limiting Benjamin’s Luke Pisani and Trevor Natalie to two goals and one assist combined.
The teams are scheduled to play again in Jupiter on April 8th. In a crazy season of restrictions and uncertainty, it was great to be reminded of why this is a favorite time of year for lacrosse fans.
