SSC Men: Lynn Escapes Saint Leo 11-10 Despite Luckoski’s 24 Saves!

Lynn Escapes Saint Leo in Classic SSC Barnburner

  BOX SCORE SAINT LEO, Fla. – The last 20 seconds between Saint Leo and Lynn decided the Sunshine State Conference men’s lacrosse game at University Turf Stadium on Saturday. Lynn, who is currently seeded second in the conference standings, put together two late goals in order to escape the Lions’ efforts, 11-10. Guy Bistrow continues to dominate the box score during his freshman campaign. Bistrow earned a career-high four goals to pace the Lions’ scoring against Lynn. Meanwhile, senior Matt Shand also recorded a four-point game with four assists. Saint Leo season point-leader, Tyler Eames, scored a hat trick off seven shots while adding a pair of ground balls. Gunnar Luckoski had a monstrous game in the cage, tallying a career-high 24 saves against the Fighting Knights. The senior from The Woodlands, Texas faced 59 shots, 35 of which were placed on target. Records Lynn: 5-1, 4-1 SSC Saint Leo: 2-3, 2-2 SSC How it Happened Saint Leo opened the game ahead by one, 4-3 after the first 15 minutes. The fast pace slowed down significantly in the second as a combined three goals were tallied. Lynn leveled the game at five points apiece in the 11th minute of the second. The scoreboard was left unmarked for the remainder of the half. Bistrow and Shand struck twice in the third complimented by an unassisted Ryan Marek goal. The dynamic duo scored in the ninth and third minutes as the perfect end slices to a Marek sandwich. The three-goal run lifted the Lions 8-5 over the visitors in Blue and White. The breathing room didn’t last long. Lynn was able to cut the gap back down to one dishing out back-to-back goals to close the quarter at 8-7. Eames scored two more times in between a pair of Lynn goals to keep the game within one, 10-9. With seven minutes remaining, Lynn’s Kaleb Cook picked up the ground ball after the restart and quickly found the back of the net for the equalizer. Luckoski earned five stops in the following 6:40 minutes to keep the game tied at 10. With 36 seconds left on the clock, the Green and Gold’s ride wasn’t able to record the clear as Lynn claimed possession and set up Cook to net the game-winner. Up Next Saint Leo looks ahead to a busy week featuring three games. On Tuesday, April 20 the Lions will host the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish at 4:00 p.m. followed by a Thursday evening game in West Palm Beach, Fla. against the Sailfish. The Green and Gold will round off the week on Saturday, April 24 at Florida Tech.
