Chrisco Becomes Program’s Draw Control Leader in #22 Lions’ Loss Against #10 Tars

  BOX SCORE SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No. 22 Saint Leo Lions were tripped up by the No. 10 Rollins Tars 15-13 on Saturday at University Turf Stadium. The Green and Gold ended up on the wrong side of the game of runs despite winning the draw battle 18-12. Delaney Chrisco won six draw controls against the Tars, becoming the program’s newest all-time draw leader with 179, breaking Allie Sheftall’s (2013-16) previous record of 178. Fiona McLaughlin paced the Lions’ offense with five goals in a five-point performance, the freshman’s second straight game finding the back of the net at least five times. Chrisco handed in four points scoring two and assisting in two. Meanwhile, Sierra Yoder had a monumental game registering a career-high three points scoring a pair off two shots, including her first collegiate goal, and adding an assist. Nina Urban added a goal and an assist to her tab while Ashlee Wilsynski also contributed two points in a two-goal performance. Ashley Salvett earned a game-high seven draw controls and picked up a groundball in another incredible defensive performance for the Lions backline. Marisa Souchak was also a defensive force to be reckoned with as the junior forced a game-high four turnovers and picked up two ground balls. Mackenzie Cotter pitched in a strong stat sheet containing three caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls. In the cage, senior Emma Crafton had a spectacular day earning a career-high 11 saves while facing 36 shots in 60 minutes of work. Records No. 10 Rollins Tars 3-1, 3-1 SSC No. 22 Saint Leo 1-3, 1-3 SSC How it Happened On a windy but sunny day on the campus of Saint Leo University, those following on the SSC Digital Network were treated to a heart-throbbing game of runs. Saint Leo put together back-to-back goals as McLaughlin tallied her first of the day followed by a man-down goal by Reagan Buhrman, assisted by Chrisco. Despite the early 3-1 lead, Rollins’ four-goal run helped lift the visitors 6-4 at the half. Time moved slowly in the second as 18 goals were registered, nine by each program. Saint Leo did what it often does and took the opening five minutes of the half by force. The quick offensive punches pieced together a five-goal run, which reclaimed the lead for the Lions by three, 9-6, at 25:01. The Tars snapped Saint Leo’s hot streak by scoring a pair which was answered by Fiona McLaughlin, assisted by Lia Lamendola, moving the score to 10-8 with the Lions on top. Another five-goal run was tallied, but this time by Rollins to regain the lead by three, 13-10. Saint Leo answered with a timely and thrilling run. Yoder broke out her first goal in the Green and Gold, assisted by Cassidy Passaro. Chrisco made it a streak netting the next one with 5:37 left on the clock. Ashlee Wilsynski tallied the equalizer at 13, assisted by Yoder. In the last three minutes, the Tars closed out the game with a pair of goals to steal the win. Up Next Saint Leo will face Florida Tech, again, on Wednesday, April 7 at University Turf Stadium starting at 4 p.m. for a non-conference game.
