Rollins Makes Easy Work of Embry-Riddle In Sunshine State Conference Match-up
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (April 18, 2018) – The sixth-ranked Rollins women’s lacrosse team held onto a 14-5 lead at the half and rolled through the second stanza to a 21-13 victory over first-year program Embry-Riddle on Wednesday evening at Embry-Riddle Lacrosse Field. The win advances the Tars to a record of 14-3, and 4-2 in Sunshine State Conference action, while the Eagles drop to 7-9, and 1-4 in SSC play. Kallie German and Hannah Ashton combined for nine goals on the night, with German tallying five and Ashton netting four to lead the team. Nikki Stumpf and Julianna DeSimone tallied a hat trick each, while Hannah Coakley, Maggie Dougherty, and Megan Cury matched them in points with three apiece as Coakley and Dougherty notched one goal and two assists each, while Cury netted two goals and added one assist. Paige Brockscored a goal and an assist on the night, while Eden Cookeearned a goal of her own. Brooke Ottaway led the team in ground balls with three, followed by Dougherty with two as she earned a team best four draw controls. Adia Field-Ridley won a season best three draw controls of her own, followed by German with two. Junior Lindsay Van Beck led the team in caused turnovers with two on the night. In goal, senior Malorie Olinplayed the first 30 minutes, facing nine shots and allowing five goals while earning four saves. Sarah Neely closed out the contest between the pipes, facing 10 shots from Embry-Riddle and allowing eight goals while earning two saves. The Eagles were led by Mckenzie Jackson with a game high six goals, while Mya Watson scored a game high seven points with four goals and three assists. Kendall Leonard notched a goal and an assist of her own, while Carson Toney and Erin Bryenton scored one goal each. Hanna Frund dished out two assists, while Gillian Greenberg earned one. Mary Catherin Kreide picked up a team best four ground balls, while Jackson led the team off the draw with a game high 14 draw controls. Defensively, the Eagles saw one caused turnover each from Devyn That and Cierra Kelley. In goal, Skylar Mossop played the initial 30 minutes, facing 16 shots from the Tars and allowing 14 goals while earning two saves. Kreide closed out the final 30 minutes, facing 13 shots and allowing seven whiles while earning six saves on the night. HOW IT HAPPENED:- First Half: The Tars jumped out to a three-goal advantage in the first nine minutes and never looked back as they held onto the lead the entire contest. Embry-Riddle earned their first goal at the 19:29 mark, but Rollins answered back with three straight to extend their advantage by five, 6-1, with 15:32 on the clock. The Eagles found the back of the net a minute later, setting the score at 6-2 with 14:51 left in the half, but the Tars answered back with six straight to take a 12-2 lead with 8:20 to go in the period. The final minutes of the half saw the Eagles outscore the Tars, 3-2, closing out the first half with Rollin holding onto a 14-5 lead.
- Second Half: Rollins utilized their depth throughout the second half, which saw Embry-Riddle outscore the Tars 8-7 in the final 30 minutes. The Tars’ damage had already been done, however, as Rollins closed out the game with an eight goal advantage, 21-13.
