Stetson Hatters Drop ASUN Opener to Liberty

  via Stetson press release   BOX SCORE Stetson opened ASUN Conference lacrosse play with a 21-6 loss at Liberty, Sunday in Lynchburg, Va. Things started off well for the Hatters (0-7 overall, 0-1 ASUN) as Marina Rotella opened the scoring with her 12thgoal of the season just over a minute into the game. Liberty responded by scoring back-to-back goals for a 2-1 lead, but Stetson’s Taylor Zuberer tied the game at 2-2 with a goal at 25:44. After Zuberer’s goal Liberty (9-2, 2-0) took control of the game, scoring the next 12 goals for a 14-2 lead. A late first-half goal by Karli Maguire cut Liberty’s lead to 14-3 at halftime. The Flames kept coming in the second half, opening the final 30 minutes by scoring seven straight goals. Stetson finished strong, closing the game with goals from Erin Collier, Audrey Tatge and Saige-Lyn Gidzinski in the final 9:17. While six different players scored one goal apiece for the Hatters, Jenna Joyal and Anna Keebler led Liberty with three goals each. The Hatters return to action on Friday when they host Furman in a non-conference game, 3 p.m., at the Athletic Training Center.
