The Hatters (4-11 overall, 1-3 ASUN) saw their postseason hopes take a serious blow with the loss. Stetson needed a win and some help to qualify for next month’s tournament, but Friday’s loss will likely leave the Hatters short. Stetson led 10-6 at halftime after a furious end to the first half. The Hatters scored three goals in the final 2:55, including a pair in the final 26 seconds whilst a man down. Stetson, in fact, scored five man-down goals on Friday.   Kennesaw State (6-9, 2-1) came out of the intermission with a hard charge as Gore and her sister, Marissa, combined to score three goals in the first eight minutes to get the Owls within 10-9. From that point, the game was a see-saw affair. Stetson went up, 11-9, on a Sarah Flatt goal but KSU responded with three straight goals, taking its first lead of the game at 12-11 on a Siena Gore goal with 17:52 to play. Three straight goals by the Hatters gave them a 14-12 lead, but the Owls again went on a mini-run with three consecutive scores for a 15-14 lead. Back-to-back goals by Stetson’s Shelby Lehmann and Marina Rotealla made it a 16-15 game and appeared to give the Hatters some momentum heading into the final the seven minutes. But the Owls closed the game with four straight goals and held on for the win. Karli Maguire led Stetson with four goals, while Taylor Patrizi added three. Lehmann, Hallie Merz and Maddie Holvey each scored twice. Liza Diamond made 14 saves in goal. The Hatters close out their home schedule on Sunday when they host Mercer at noon. Stetson will honor its outgoing seniors in pregame ceremonies.
