via Stetson press release – photo by Steve Simoneau   Stetson scored the last six goals of the game but in the end, the Hatters’ rally fell just short in a 15-13 loss to Arizona State, Sunday at the ATC. The Hatters trailed 11-3 at halftime and 15-7 with 14:33 to play before making a nearly-incredible comeback. Shelby Lehmann scored two of her game-high 5 goals on back-to-back possessions to make it 15-9. Taylor Patrizi followed with a free-position goal, and Lehman scored again as the Hatters pulled to within 15-11 with 7:03 to play.   Sandra Stephan (6:18) and Hallie Merz (3:07) continued the scoring as Stetson made it a 15-13 game. But Arizona State won consecutive draws and wasted just enough time to keep the Hatters from any more scoring. The Stetson defense, which struggled in the first half, was outstanding over the final 30 minutes. Arizona State (2-0) managed just 15 shots in the second half after getting 27 in the first. Stetson goalie Liza Diamond was up to the task for the entire game with 16 saves. The Sun Devils jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first half before Karli Maguire scored back-to-back goals to get the Hatters within 5-2. Arizona State responded with 6 straight goals before Stetson closed the half with the first of Lehmann’s goals. Kerri Clayton led Arizona State with 5 goals. The Hatters return to action when they host No. 15 Notre Dame, 11 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 18.
