Stetson: Lacrosse Welcomes Seven Newcomers for 2019 Campaign

  via Stetson press release – photo by Steve Simoneau   The Stetson University lacrosse program announced the addition of seven new players who will be a part of the Hatters for the 2019 women’s lacrosse season. “I am excited to welcome these seven newcomers to our program,” head coach Christy Leach said. “They bring a variety of backgrounds and experience, and I am excited to start working with them this fall. I know this group will help elevate us to an ASUN Championship in the spring.” The seven newcomers each hails from a different state. The Hatters signed players from Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, and New Jersey. Each player has an extensive history of success in lacrosse at the club and high school varsity level. Erin Collier – Windermere, Fla. (Olympia HS) Three-time all-metro selection at Olympia High School … led the Titans to a pair of state semifinal appearances and 69 wins overall in her four seasons … four-year starter and three-year recipient of the Mighty Titan Award … owns career totals of 199 goals, 61 assists, 203 draw controls and 116 ground balls. Leach on Collier: “Erin has developed into a dual threat on the field over her high school years. She is a solid defender, but can also get the draw and put the ball in the back of the net. We are excited to see her continue to grow over the next four years.”
Ocean Crawley-Sweeney – Swampscott, Mass. (Swampscott HS) Multi-sport athlete at Swampscott High, where she participated in cross country and indoor track in addition to lacrosse … helped lead the lacrosse team to a total of 50 wins in her four varsity seasons … was an All-State selection as a senior. Leach on Crawley-Sweeney: “Ocean brings a wealth of consistency to the midfield and will be able to last an entire game. She has continually improved and we are looking forward to her developing all assets of her game.”
Saige-Lyn Gidzinski – Shamong, N.J. (Camden Catholic HS) Two-time All-South Jersey selection and a four-time all-conference pick at Camden Catholic … finished her high school career with 247 goals, 54 assists and 301 points … never scored fewer than 50 goals in a season during her four-year career, and scored a high of 71 as a junior … the 247 career goals are the second-most in school history … led Camden Catholic to three conference titles. Leach on Gidzinski: “Saige is a huge scoring threat that brings a different dynamic to our attack. She has the ability to finish in tight spaces and will add another level to our attack.”
Jacklyn Lavoie – Waterford, Conn. (Waterford HS) Two-time All-State selection at Waterford High School … also earned all-conference accolades three times … missed six games as a senior but still managed to score 40 goals with 10 assists … for her career, she tallied 151 goals and 38 assists … is Waterford’s all-time leader in goals … received the school’s also lettered in soccer where she was a two-time All-State and all-conference selection as a defender. Leach on Lavoie: “Jackie brings a wealth of speed and athleticism to our midfield. She is relentless between the 30’s and can be a threat on each end of the field.”
Luisa Medina – Park Ridge, Ill. (Montini Catholic HS) Two-time honorable mention All-State selection at Montini Catholic. Leach on Medina: “Luisa is a player that never quits. She is relentless in riding in the midfield and has the speed to spark a transition. She will be a great asset to our midfield.”
Hannah Mill – Parker, Colo. (Legend HS) The all-time scoring leader at Legend High in parker, Colo. … finished career with 294 points (197 goals, 97 assists) … three-time All-States selection, including twice being named to the first team … three-time all-league pick … helped lead Legend to the state final four as a senior … played in the Under Armour All-American tournament for the Southwest region … two-time academic All-State selection … named All-American as a senior by Adrenaline Lacrosse. Leach on Mill: “Hannah brings a tenacity for scoring and is a dual threat. She is powerful and will add a new dynamic to our attack. We are excited for her to build chemistry with our returners.”
Maria Snee – Bel Air, Md. (Wright HS) Helped lead Wright to consecutive state runner-up finishes in 2016 and 2017 … played club lacrosse with Elite Lacrosse. Leach on Snee: “Maria brings a high IQ for the game and a solid foundation of skills.
