Tampa Women: #23 Spartans Earn Historic 22-4 Win Over the NGU Crusaders

  via UT press release   TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 23 University of Tampa women’s lacrosse team set a program record for most goals scored in a game, defeating the North Greenville Crusaders by a final score of 22-4.   • 1:45 into the game, senior Amanda Rom put Tampa on the board first with a goal, the assist by freshman Graeme Eber.
  • Less than a minutes later, Maggie Gladden scored her first goal of the day, the assist by Rachel Crawford.
  • With 25:04 left in the first half, Gladden then netted her second goal of the day, this time from fellow sophomore Claire Swanson.
  • 13 seconds after Gladden‘s second goal, Rom logged her second goal, the assist once again from Swanson.
  • Swanson then decided she wanted a goal of her own, giving Tampa a 5-0 lead with 24:32 remaining in the half.
  • Carly Vaccaro then netted back-to-back goals for Tampa. The second goal was off an assist by Crawford.
  • With 16:00 remaining in the half, Crawford got a goal of her own, the assist from Rom.
  • Then after eight unanswered goals, the North Greenville Crusaders earned their first point with 15:06 remaining in the first.
  • Swanson scored her second goal of the day, the assist by Rom with 13:51 remaining in the half.
  • Amanda Rom then earned her third goal of the day, the assist by Eber, giving Tampa a ten-point lead and initiating the running clock.
  • With 12:31 left in the half, Swanson netted her third goal of the game.
  • Senior Shannon Sweeney then logged a goal, the assist from fellow senior Natalie Carraway. Tampa now leads 12-1.
  • Carraway then scored a goal of her own, the assist from Allie Popelar.
  • Giving Tampa the 14-1 lead, Kayla Kosubinsky earned a goal for the Spartans off the assist by Carraway. This assist by Carraway marked her 100th career point, making her just the third Spartan in program history to reach this milestone.
  • Heading into halftime, the Spartans led the Crusaders 14-1.  
2nd Half
  • Coming out of halftime, the running clock was still in effect due to the Spartans 10+ point lead.
  • Carraway was the first Spartan to score after the half, her goal coming off a free position shot.
  • Kosubinsky gave UT the 16-1 lead with 23:32 remaining in the game. The assist by Crawford, her third assist of the day.
  • NGU the scored their second goal of the day with 21:28 remaining in the game. UT still leads NGU 16-2.
  • With 16:34 remaining, Crawford scored again for the Spartans.
  • The Crusaders then scored another goal now behind 17-3.
  • Caroline Forester logged her first goal of the game for the Spartans with 10:42 remaining.
  • Carraway then got her third goal of the game off the assist by Megan Sengelmann. This marked Sengelmann‘s first assist of her junior campaign.
  • With 4:57 left, freshman Lauren McNeill recorded the first goal of her college career.
  • Two minutes later, Popelar got her first goal of the game, the assist once again from Sengelmann.
  • North Greenville then scored their fourth and final goal of the game with 1:16 remaining.
  • Then with 13 seconds left in the contest, Carraway got another goal for the Spartans, this time from Abby Coccagna.
  • The University of Tampa Spartans defeated the North Greenville University Crusaders by a final score of 22-4.
  INSIDE THE STATS:
  • On offense, 11 different Spartans all recorded goals. Natalie Carraway led the Spartans with four goals and two assists, followed by Amanda Rom and Claire Swanson with three goals and two assists each.
  • Rachel Crawford led UT in assists with three, she also recorded two goals.
  • Defensively, the Spartans were led by Abby Coccagna, who in addition to stating an assist, recorded two caused turnovers and picked up two ground balls.
  • Bridget Sutter , Taylor Sisk, and Mackenzie Hackett all logged time playing goalie for the Spartans. Sutter recorded one save while Sisk logged three.
  BEYOND THE BOX:
  • 22 goals in one game is a new program record for most goals scored in a game.
  • 11 different Spartans had goals for Tampa.
  • Freshman Lauren McNeill scored the first goal of her collegiate career.
  • Megan Sengelmann recorded her first two assists of her junior campaign.
  • Junior Abby Coccagna earned her first assist of her collegiate career.
