Box Score (PDF) ANNAPOLIS, Md. – In front of a large crowd at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, the No. 11 Florida Gators fell to the 17th-ranked Navy Midshipmen, 14-13. Navy put together a 5-0 run with 4:30 remaining in the game to close out the comeback victory. Lindsey Ronbeck paced the offense for Florida, scoring four goals on the day. She has now scored at least three goals in all four of the Gators’ games this season. Shannon Kavanagh added two goals on the day as well. Defensively, the Gators caused a total of seven turnovers, led by two from Caroline Benitez. Haley Hicklen registered eight saves, bringing her total to the season to 425. Ronbeck won four draws during the game, a career-best mark for her. Sabrina Cristodero followed with three draw control wins of her own. Benitez finished with a season-best four groundballs, while Cara Trombetta added three. How It Happened Pirreca got the Gators on the board early with an unassisted goal, then a big defensive save by Hicklen led to a fast break opportunity for Hannah Mardiney, who recorded the first goal of her collegiate career to put Florida up 2-0. Alix Lopez found a streaking Kassidy Bresnahan to give Florida the 3-0 advantage, before Navy was able to find the back of the net. Kavanagh answered right back for the Gators, scoring on a pass from Marindey to take the 4-1 lead. Navy got back to within two with just over 17 minutes left in the first half, but then Mardiney found Kavanagh for the second time to put Florida up 5-2. After 10 scoreless minutes on both sides of the field, Ronbeck broke through with a free-position goal, putting UF up 6-2. The Midshipmen tacked two more goals on before halftime, but Florida led 6-4 going into the break. Madi Hall sliced through the defense to score on a pass from Lopez, giving the Gators the 7-4 advantage with 26 minutes remaining in the game. Ronbeck followed with her second free-position goal of the day, putting Florida up 8-4. The Midshipmen answered with a goal at the 23:38 mark, but Caroline Benitez responded with her first goal of the season, putting the Gators up four. Brianna Harris then added a free-position goal of her own to give Florida the 10-5 lead. After Navy cut the deficit to just three goals at 10-7, Ronbeck recorded her fourth hat trick of the season to put Florida up by four with just over 11 minutes remaining. Navy got it to within two goals at 11-9, but Ronbeck and Harris combined for two goals to put Florida ahead 13-9. With under five minutes to go, Navy went on a 5-0 run to take the 14-13 lead and would hold on to secure its fourth victory of the season.
