Florida closed out league play with a 17-4 win over Old Dominion on Sunday morning

  BOX SCORE NORFOLK, Va. – The ninth-ranked Florida lacrosse team topped the Old Dominion Monarchs 17-4 on Sunday morning to round out its regular season conference schedule. The Gators move to 13-2 on the year and 10-0 in conference play, while Old Dominion falls to 3-14 overall and 1-9 in the AAC. With the victory, Florida has closed out conference play with an undefeated record (10-0), the eighth time in program history that feat has been achieved. The Gators have also now won 40-straight regular season conference games dating back to the beginning of the 2016 season. The Gators were led on the offensive front by Grace Haus, who posted six goals – tying her career-best mark. Shannon Kavanagh followed right behind Haus with five goals of her own on eight shots for a .625 shooting percentage. Kassidy Bresnahan, Maggi Hall, Jackie Norsworthy, Danielle Pavinelli, Shelton Sawers and Janine Suris each found the back of the cage once for Florida. Hall dished out two assists to lead the way for the Gators – tying a career-best mark for her. Bresnahan, Haus, Brianna Harris and Kaala Puglisi each registered one helper in the victory. The Gators won 13-of-22 draw controls, with Emily Heller coming up with six to set a new career-high. Kavanagh added four in the game, while Paisley Eagan registered two of her own. Florida’s defensive effort on Sunday was spectacular, with the Gators holding the Monarchs scoreless for the middle 39:10 of the game. UF’s defense – which ranks in the Top-5 in the nation – held Old Dominion to just four goals on the morning and caused 10 turnovers. Becky Browndorf, Kaitlyn Dabkowski and Emma Wightman led the way with two caused turnovers apiece, while four Gators each recorded one in the game. Wightman notched a team-best three groundballs, followed by two from Browndorf, Dabkowski and Bresnahan. Sarah Reznick was stellar in the cage, notching seven saves with a .700 save percentage in her 13th victory this season. Florida closes out regular season play with a midweek matchup against the Liberty Flames on Wednesday. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m. at Donald R. Dizney Stadium. • Old Dominion got on the board first, scoring just over 90 seconds into the game, but Shannon Kavanagh netted back-to-back goals to give Florida the 2-1 lead with 23:10 left to play in the first half.
• The Monarchs nabbed the equalizer less than a minute later, but from that point on, it was all Gators in the first half.
• The Florida defense held Old Dominion scoreless for the final 17:40 of the frame and UF’s offense went on a 5-0 run to take the 7-2 lead into the locker room.
• Kassidy Bresnahan led off the 5-0 spurt, scoring on a pass from Maggi Hall, then Hall followed with a goal of her own to give Florida the 4-2 lead.
• Grace Haus and Shelton Sawers each converted on a free-position attempt to give the Gators a 6-2 lead with just over eight minutes remaining in the frame.
• Florida’s final goal of the 5-0 run once again came from the stick of Haus, this time on an incredible diving goal – giving the Gators a five-goal advantage.
• Coming out of halftime, Florida continued to roll, scoring eight-straight goals. The run was kicked off by Haus, who registered her seventh hat trick of the season just 59 seconds into the second frame.
• Kavanagh followed with back-to-back-to-back goals within the span of 53 seconds to give Florida the 11-2 lead. Danielle Pavinelli then found the back of the cage on an assist from Bresnahan, giving the Gators the running clock advantage.
• Haus then went on a three-goal run of her own to bring her to six total goals in the game, putting Florida up 15-2 with just under 16 minutes left to play.
• After Florida’s defense held ODU scoreless for 39:10 straight, the Monarchs finally got back on the board with a two-goal spurt of their own to cut Florida’s lead to 15-4.
• The Gators would tack on two more goals in the final two minutes of the game, coming from the sticks of Jackie Norsworthy and Janine Suris.
