UT Women: #17 Spartans Slay the TimberWolves 14-7

  via UT press release   TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 17 University of Tampa women’s lacrosse team avenged a loss earlier in the week with a victory over visiting Colorado State University-Pueblo.   • The TimberWolves started the game off with a goal 30 seconds into the game.
  • Caroline Forester put Tampa on the board with a goal off the assist from Rachel Crawford with 20 minutes left in the half.
  • With 17:25 remaining, Carly Vaccaro netted a goal, Crawford recorded her second assist of the game.
  • Kayla Kosubinsky added two goals within a minute. Natalie Carraway assisted her on one of the goals.
  • Carraway recorded her second assist of the game to help Forester record her second goal of the game.
  • CSU scored on a free possession shot with 13:01 remaining in the half, the score is 5-2 with the Spartans in the lead.
  • The TimberWolves notched another goal with 10:55 left.
  • Maggie Gladden recorded her first goal of the game off a free possession shot.
  • With 4:55 remaining in the half, Vaccaro tallied another goal.
  • Claire Swanson recorded her first goal of the game with 1:31 to go.
  • CSU responded with a goal 30 seconds after the Spartan goal, Tampa continued to lead 8-4 going into the half.
  2nd Half
  • Similar to the first half, CSU opened the second half with a goal in the first three minutes.
  • Swanson scored for the Spartans with 26:44 remaining.
  • A minute later, Gladden notched her second goal of the game.
  • The TimberWolves scored a goal with 23:34 left in the game, the Spartans lead 10-6.
  • Swanson notched two back-to-back goals off assists from Gladden and Graeme Eber.
  • With 7 minutes reaming in the game, Shannon Sweeney notched her first goal of the game.
  • Swanson tallied her fifth goal of the game, unassisted.
  • CSU scored with 10 seconds left in the game.
  • Tampa won the game by a final score of 14-7.
  INSIDE THE STATS:
  • Swanson led the Spartans in goals with five, GladdenForesterKosubinsky, and Vaccaro recorded two each.
  • Carraway and Crawford each had two assists. Gladden and Eber each had one assist.
  • Swanson tallied a team-high of nine shots, Kosubinksy followed with eight.
  • Abby Coccagna finished with a team-high of seven ground balls. Coccagna also led the Spartans in caused turnovers with six.
  • Swanson notched eight draw controls to lead all Spartans.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Bridget Sutter recorded the win in the net as she finished with six saves.
  BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Claire Swanson recorded a season high and career high of five goals in a single contest.
  UP NEXT: Tampa will host Sunshine State Conference foe, Florida Tech, on Wednesday, April 4th. The first draw is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Then on Saturday, April 14th, the Spartans will travel to Saint Leo where they will face the Lions for a 7:00 p.m. showdown.
