UT Women: Spartans Bounce Back to Defeat the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey 14-10

  via UT press release   TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa women’s lacrosse defeated the Belmont Abbey Crusaders by a final score of 14-10.   • Three minutes into the game, sophomore Maggie Gladden put UT on the board first with a free position goal for the Spartans.
  • Then in a similar fashion, Carly Vaccaro also scored for Tampa, giving them the 2-0 lead.
  • However, ten minutes into the game, Belmont Abbey answered with a goal, putting them on the board.
  • Senior Natalie Carraway then netted a goal for UT.
  • With 13:41 left in the half, Graeme Eber earned her second goal of the season with the assist by Amanda Rom. The Spartans led the Crusaders 3-1.
  • Quickly after, Mallary Weinsz scored another goal for UT, this time from Eber.
  • Less than a minute later, the Crusaders answered with a goal coming from a free position attempt.
  • BAC then scored another goal with 4:22 left in the half. Tampa still held the lead 5-3.
  • Then with 3:09 left in the half, Amanda Rom netted a man-up goal from Rachel Crawford.
  • Heading into halftime, the Spartans were leading the Crusaders 6-3.
  2nd Half
  • Coming out of the half, the Belmont Abbey College Crusaders were the first to score off a free position shot.
  • The Crusaders then scored again, until sophomore Claire Swanson was able to silence them with the assist from Rom.
  • Less than a minute later, Rom scored a goal of her own. Tampa continued to hold the lead 8-5.
  • BAC then scored two unanswered goals, bringing them back to within one.
  • With 20:26 left to play, Kayla Kosubinsky scored a free position goal.
  • Senior Natalie Carraway then scored her second goal of the game, also off a free position shot.
  • Then with 16:19 left in the contest, Eber notched another goal for the Spartans, her second of the day.
  • The Crusaders then netted a man-up goal to make the score Tampa 11, Belmont Abbey 8.
  • With 8:11 left in the game, Allie Popelar scored her first goal of the day.
  • One minute after, Eber earned her third goal of the day, this time from Kosubinsky.
  • BAC then scored back-to-back goals with 4:25 left to play.
  • The final goal of the game came from Kosubinsky, securing Tampa’s victory.
  • The Spartans defeated the Crusaders by a final score of 14-10.
  INSIDE THE STATS:
  • Freshman Graeme Eber led the Spartans offense with three goals on the day.
  • Following Eber, Carraway, Rom, and Kosubinsky all had two goals.
  • Additionally, Rom led the Spartans in assists with two.
  • Swanson led the Spartans in draw control wins, in addition to having a goal for Tampa.
  • Alexa Scudillo led the Spartans defensive efforts, with three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
  • Goal keeper, Bridget Sutterhad 11 saves.
  BEYOND THE BOX:
  • This marks the first time that the Spartans have ever defeated the Crusaders.
  UP NEXT: Tampa will return home for a contest against the Tusculum Pioneers on Monday, March 5th.
