Webber: Men’s Lacrosse Drops Second Straight Top-10 Road Game

(March 14, 2021) – Only one day after battling the No. 1-ranked team in all of the NAIA, Reinhardt University, the Webber International University men’s lacrosse team traveled even further north to take on the challenge of No. 8 Tennessee Wesleyan University, and in the end, the Warriors came up short by a final score of 21-8 on Sunday. Webber fell to 2-4 overall, 2-3 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference and 0-3 on the road during its first ever season of competition. In fact, all three of the Warriors’ games on the road so far during their inaugural season, and all four of their losses, have come against top-10 nationally-ranked teams. Tennessee Wesleyan is now 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference with the win. Alexander Kew led the Warriors with four goals while Chase Jackson added two goals and an assist. Webber trailed 6-0 after the first quarter and trailed 9-0 six minutes into the second quarter before getting on the scoreboard with a goal by Blake Nelson with 8:16 left before halftime. Kew scored with 4:42 left in the first half to give the Warriors back-to-back goals, and then he scored again with 1:08 left in the half on the assist from Jackson to make it 11-3 at the time. A goal by Brycen Ortiz with 9:35 on the clock in the third quarter made it 12-4, and then Kew reached the hat trick with his third goal of the day coming with only 43 seconds left in the period to make it 15-5. Back-to-back goals by Jackson and Kew early in the fourth quarter made it 16-7, and then the second goal by Jackson with only 2:35 left to play made it 20-8. Next up for Webber will be a third straight road game as the Warriors play at SCAD Savannah at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 19. It will also be Webber’s final road game of the regular season.
