Hiron Nets Fourth ASUN Player of the Week Honor

LAKE POINT, Ga. – After posting a career-high in both points (7) and goals (6) for Jacksonville University women’s lacrosse last Wednesday, senior captain Ashtyn Hiron was named ASUN Conference Player of the Week for the third time this season and fourth of her career, as announced by the league Tuesday afternoon. A native of Perth, Western Australia, Hiron’s six goals mark a career-high and match for the fourth-most goals scored in a single game in program history as the Dolphins dropped a heartbreaking 17-16 decision to Dartmouth at D.B. Milne Field. Hiron converted both of her free-position shots and is now tied for second all-time in program history with 30 career free-position goals. The midfielder also won a team-high five draw controls, picked up two ground balls, and caused a turnover in the loss. One of Hiron’s goals, a behind-the-back low shot through past the Big Green goalie’s ankles, was featured in the SportsCenter Top 10 last Wednesday evening. Hiron and the rest of the Dolphins hit the road for a four-game swing beginning this Thursday, March 29 at Furman. Opening draw is set for 6 p.m. To read the full release from the ASUN, click here.     *****

Sells Tabbed SoCon Defensive Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After an outstanding outing in net for Jacksonville University men’s lacrosse, junior goalkeeper Hunter Sells was named Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league Tuesday afternoon. Sells recorded nine saves – many at point blank range – and allowed a season-low five goals on 31 shots to help the Dolphins defeat Bellarmine, 9-5, last Saturday. The win marks the Dolphins’ first 2-0 SoCon start since joining the league in 2015. Sells also picked up a season-high seven ground balls and kept the Knights off the board on a pair of man-up opportunities – two categories the Dolphins dominate in, with the nation’s fourth-most ground balls per game (35.00) and the sixth-best man-down defense (.815). The Bethesda, Md. native ranks second in the SoCon with a 9.83 goals-against average. Sells and the rest of the Dolphins hit the road this Saturday, March 31 as they travel to SoCon foe High Point for a noon contest. For the full release from the SoCon, click here.
