Wurzburger and Bakes Make Final 36-Member US Lacrosse U-19 Training Team!

SPARKS, Md. — Head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller has named 36 players who have been selected to the training team for the 2019 U.S. Women’s U19 National Team. The players were selected from the 110 players that participated in a three-day tryout that concluded Sunday at US Lacrosse headquarters.

“Obviously it’s bittersweet because there’s so much talent at this tryout,” said Amonte Hiller, the head coach at Northwestern University, a National Lacrosse Hall of Fame inductee, and a three-time U.S. World Cup team member. “It’s hard to let some of those kids go because there was such a depth of the talent pool — to have 500 kids apply and to just see how strong the drills and scrimmages and everything we did this weekend was.

“I’m really excited for the group that got selected. They really were dynamic. They were coachable. We were looking for players that could really work together and I think they distinguished themselves with those characteristics. We’re really pleased to be able to invite them to be a part of this special experience.”

The roster includes 12 attackers, 13 midfielders, eight defenders, and three goalies, features players from 11 different states, and spans four graduating classes.

The first training weekend for the team will be held Oct. 5-8 at the Team USA Fall Classic in conjunction with the U.S. Men’s and Women’s Senior Teams at US Lacrosse.

The 2019 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women’s U19 World Championship will be held Aug. 1-10, 2019 in Peterborough, Canada.

The United States has won four of the six previous FIL Women’s U19 championships held (1999, 2003, 2007, 2011) while Australia (1995) and Canada (2015) have each won once.

The U.S. women’s national team trains and plays using best-in-class products provided by Nike (apparel and footwear), Brine (equipment), STX (equipment), SISU Guard (mouthguard), and The Pearl by Guardian (balls). In addition to these partners, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Greenfields, Nationwide, and MedStar Sports Medicine are official sponsors of Team USA. Team training is also aided by products from DJO Global, Motive Pure, NormaTec Recovery, and Athletic Republic.
