FIT Women’s Lacrosse Triumphs Over U20 England in Friday Night Friendly

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Tech women’s lacrosse welcomed the England Women’s Under 20 Team on Friday night to Rick Stottler Field a friendly exhibition contest that saw the Panthers defeat some of England’s best young talent by a score of 15-13 under the lights in Melbourne.

  • England was the first to score in the contest taking an early 2-0 lead over the Panthers before Kayla Minton and Sophia Scichilone connected for a goal before Scichilone found the back of the net herself to tie it 2-2.
  • At the end of the 1st a minute apart, England and Tech would each exchange goals with Tech’s goal scored by Carly Niro from Karly Liebendorfer to keep it tied 3-3 entering the second half.


  • Team England recorded the first goal of the second quarter before Emma Angelo scored off a woman-up free position goal to tie it before Gillian Craig found the back of the net to make it a 5-4 Panther lead.
  • The English would score yet again only to be answered by another pair of Panther goals this time with Brianna Ellis scoring off a free position goal and Gillian Craig scoring with 1:52 left before the half with an assist from Gabrielle Skowronski.
  • Just under 30 seconds to play in the first half, England’s Lara Renders scored off a woman-up goal as it would be a 7-6 Florida Tech lead entering the half.


  • In the exhibition contest, both teams would agree to international rules for the second half of the friendly Exhibition and play 10v10.
  • Neither team would score for nearly the first four minutes of the quarter before Jennie Boyle put the Panthers ahead 8-6 3:50 into the 3rd.
  • England would answer back with a pair of goals to tie it 8-8 until Carly Niro scored her first goal of the night with an assist from Phoebe Hurt to make it 9-8 Florida Tech.
  • Down by one, England would put together a short rally scoring three goals in just over two minutes to go ahead by two.
  •  Trailing, with 3:01 left to play in the third Tech scored five unanswered goals to make it 14-11 as time expired.
  • Highlighting the big end to the third were two goals each by Freshman Sofie Bender and junior Caroline Finn with Scichilone picking up the assist on both of Finn’s goals.


  • The fourth quarter would not see many goals scored as England started out scoring 2:15 into the quarter to make it 14-12.
  • For the next six minutes, neither team would score again until Carys Johnson of England found the back of the goal on a woman-up goal to make it 14-13 with 5:34 to play.
  • From their final goal in the fourth with 0:33 to play, the Panthers would go 14 minutes without a goal until with 1:28 to play in the fourth, Gabrielle Skowronski recorded Tech’s insurance goal to give them the 15-13 lead.
  • Neither team would go on to score for the remainder of the quarter giving the Panthers the 15-13 victory in the friendly contest.



  • Florida Tech is now 1-0 against the England Women’s Lacrosse Under 20 Team.
  • The Panthers recorded 27 shots, nine saves, were 14-18 on clear attempts and tallied 17 ground balls, and draw control wins while also going 2-3 on free-position attempts.
  • England put together 30 shots against Tech with just five saves, were 17-19 on clear attempts, picked up 16 ground balls, won 15 of 32 ground balls, and were 1-for-3 on free-position shots.
