Saints Silence the Fighting Knights in Home Opener

ST AUGUSTINE – Logan Tobias scored three goals in Flagler College’s season-opening 9-8 win over Lynn University in a non-conference men’s lacrosse game this afternoon at the Flagler Lacrosse Field.

Griffin Moore scored the game-winning goal with just 55 seconds remaining.

The Fighting Knights started out strong with a 4-2 lead for the first quarter. Brian Hoskins led the Fighting Knights on the offensive front scoring three goals.

The Saints came back in the second quarter scoring two unanswered goals from Tyler Douglas and Tobias to cut the deficit to 5-4 at the end of the half.

The Saints continued to close the gap in the second half. Flagler scored four more goals to take an 8-5 lead after Dylan Wilson fired a shot into the net with 6:08 to go in regulation.

Lynn scored three more goals to tie the game at 8-all. Connor Houston tied the game with 4:06 left on the clock.

Despite falling short in the end, the Fighting Knights goalie Tristan Lenard had a stellar performance with 19 saves.

The Saints defense performed well also with goalie Nate Lehr making 14 saves.

The Saints will return Feb. 7 at 2 p.m. in a home matchup against the University of Tampa.

Hoskins Scores Three in Lynn Loss

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Graduate Brian Hoskins scored three goals and classmate Scott Friant handed out two assists as Lynn University men’s lacrosse dropped its 2024 opener with a narrow 9-8 decision at Flagler, Saturday. The contest served as the season opener for both schools.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
– Lynn scored four goals in the first quarter and led 5-4 at halftime
– The Saints rebounded by outscoring the visitors 5-3 in the second half
– Flagler outshot Lynn 43-32, the Fighting Knights finished 18-of-20 on clear attempts and the Saints won 12-of-22 faceoffs
– Sophomore Tristan Lenard stopped 19 shots in his first career start in net
– Graduates Joseph Michalski (14:09) and Jalen Stanton (9:43) each scored in the first quarter for a 2-1 Lynn lead
– Hoskins scored back-to-back goals to close the first frame with a 4-2 advantage
– Sophomore Connor Zombro scored with 8:20 to go in the first half as Lynn built a 5-2 cushion
– Flagler rattled off the game’s next six goals for an 8-5 lead with just 6:08 left in the fourth quarter
– Lynn didn’t back down as it found the net three times in a 55 second span
– Graduate Thomas Murray connected on a shot at 5:01, Hoskins scored at 4:38 and junior Connor Houston tied the game at 8-8 with Lynn’s final goal at 4:06
– The Fighting Knights’ final shot of the game was saved with 1:28 to play and Flagler’s Griffin Moore scored on the ensuing possession for the win

– Hoskins scored his three goals on eight shots
– Sophomore Jackson Cutter led the way with five ground balls
– Junior Camren Santos won 10-of-19 faceoffs
