Flagler Men: Saints Suffer First Conference Setback

GREENWOOD, S.C. – Flagler College suffered its first Peach Belt Conference loss of the season at the hands of Lander University, 17-10, at Emerald High School Saturday afternoon.

The Saints move to 2-11 on the year while sporting a 2-1 record in conference play. Lander improves to 10-4 and remains perfect in the PBC, going to 3-0.

The Saints jumped out to a  3-1 lead at the end of the first 15 minutes. Thomas Pritchard netted back to back goals while Tyler Douglass added one.

Lander responded with a strong second quarter, outscoring the Saints, 6-2. The teams traded the first two goals of the quarter, but Lander proceeded to rattle off three straight goals to grab a 6-4 lead. Joe Beville would cut the lead to 6-5; however, the Bearcats scored two goals in the final 15 seconds of the quarter to give them some breathing room headed into the break.

Lander pulled away in the final quarter, posting seven goals to put the Saints away. Pritchard finished with a season-high five goals in addition to handing out one assist. Ty Tom contributed one goal and assisted on two of his teammates goals. Lander was paced by Adam Mather and Nolan Oakley, with each posting hat tricks.

Tim Russell served as the Saints’ goalie for the majority of the game and recorded 14 saves.

Flagler returns home for its final regular-season home game when the University of Alabama in Huntsville comes to the Flagler Lacrosse Field next Saturday, April 23, at 2 p.m.
