BOX SCORE

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Trace McDonald and Luke Burton scored three goals each for Flagler College in a 15-12 loss to Lander University in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament championship game Sunday afternoon at the Varsity Soccer Field.

McDonald was named to the PBC All-Tournament Team along with Ori Imirie and Matt Mitrega.

The Saints end their third season as the PBC runner-up with an overall record of 7-9. The Bearcats are now 12-4 and will await hearing if they are one of the six teams selected from the South Region to join the 12-team NCAA Division II National Championship. Lander was not ranked in the most recent region poll.

The Saints trailed the Bearcats early, 7-0 until Tanner Sims scored Flagler’s first goal of the game in the last 35 seconds of the first quarter.

The Saints attempted to close the gap in the second quarter starting it off with three goals in a row thanks to McDonald, Burton, and Griffin Moore.

The Saints and Bearcats continued to fire back-and-forth the whole game. Tyler Douglass, Burton, and Logan Tobias managed to score the last three goals of the game to bring the deficit to 15-12.

However, the last-ditch effort by the Saints was not enough to close the gap and left the Bearcats on top.

Bearcats goalie Nicholas Page also made the all-tournament team and made 12 saves this afternoon. Kyle DeCrispino scored three goals and tallied two assists. He was named the PBC Tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Carter Wilcox, Quinn Engalls, Britton Weems, and Nicholas Paige were also selected to the all-tournament team.

Saints goalie Nate Lehr made seven saves today. Mitrega stood out for the Saints winning 21 faceoffs and collecting eight groundballs.

Brayden O’Neil from The University of Alabama in Huntsville and Matthew Boas from the University of Montevallo were named to the all-tournament team.
