BOX SCORE

ROME, Ga. – Geraint Shaw netted five goals in Flagler College’s 17-7 rout of Shorter University Saturday afternoon at Ben Brady Field.

Flagler moves to 2-10 on the year and 2-0 in Peach Belt Conference play. Shorter drops to 3-10 overall and stays searching for that first conference win, falling to 0-2 in the PBC.

“Feels good to go on the road for the first time with 47 rookies and get a ‘W,'” head coach Brian Duncan said, following the program’s first road victory.

The first 15 minutes were a closely contest affair. Shorter started the scoring thanks to a Gunnar Uutinen goal, from teammate Earl Marshall. Shaw responded four minutes later with his fourth man-up goal of the season to even the score. Ty Tom and Jackson Krasny scored back-to back goals to give Flagler a 3-1 lead with 4:37 left. Shorter netted two more goals to tie the game at 3 headed into the second quarter.

The Saints outscored Shorter 4-1 in the second quarter to send them into halftime with a 7-4 advantage.

The third quarter was all Flagler, scoring eight goals, while keeping the Hawks off the board. This is the first period of the year the Saints’ defense has kept their opponents off the board for the entire 15 minutes. The scoring was kicked off by the stick of Shaw for his 19th goal of the year. The highlight of the quarter was senior, and member of the team when it was a student-club, Joe Beville netting his first collegiate goal.

Shaw was not the only hat trick for Duncan’s squad. Drew Flagg posted his second consecutive hat trick, while Tom recorded his first since the inaugural game in which he netted four.

On defense, Dom Trager forced a season-high three turnovers. Paxton Crowell held down the midfield while causing two turnovers himself.

Flagler will look to make it three in a row up in Greenwood, South Carolina at Van Taylor Stadium when Lander University welcomes the Saints on Saturday, April 16th for a 1 p.m. contest.
