There certainly will be movement this week, as a number of Top 10 matchups occurred.

When you look at the top 3 slots this week, you have an interesting thought process when looking at St. Andrew’s, Bolles and Benjamin. Bolles took a different approach to their schedule this season than most Florida schools have done in the past with many out-of-state schools. In the last week, they lost by a goal to a strong Dublin Jerome (OH), which also knocked off Ponte Vedra, a big win over a good Bartram Trail team, and most impressively a RotR win over Lucy Beckham (SC), the defending state champs in SC, and a team that got past PV the previous day.

Then you look Benjamin. Two losses all year against a heck of a schedule; a one-goal loss to St. Thomas and a 2-goal loss to Saint Andrew’s. Since that SA loss, all they’ve done is go 4-0 against Top 10 SJP, then #1 LHP and road wins over then #1 Jesuit and Top 10 2A Plant in OT after trailing by 2 with 2 minutes to go. That is one very impressive four-game streak.

And Saint Andrew’s is still SA . . . the measuring stick.

Jesuit’s loss to Benjamin was followed by an excellent road win at Cardinal Mooney and they host Ponte Vedra on Wednesday. No rest for the weary. And Mitchell is waiting in the last week.

Lake Highland went 2-0 versus easy competition and Lake Mary comes calling tomorrow, with St. Edward’s to finish the season. St. Edward’s handled Jensen Beach and Montverde comfortably and finally head home, with a matchup with St. Thomas on Tuesday after a 6-game road skein.

Community School continued its excellent run, with wins over CM and King’s Academy. A terrific matchup with a rejuvenated Pine Crest at home comes up the last week of the season. They should have no trouble with Barrn Collier and Riverview this week.

Cardinal Mooney has hit a bump in the road, with three straight losses to heavy competition, but should be able to get back on track with the last four games.

Holy Trinity took their rivalry game with Viera and barely avoided a huge upset versus Jensen Beach. Tuesday, they travel to Bolles for easily their toughest game to date.

SJP II handled Gulf Coast on Saturday and have a home tilt with Columbus and a Saturday road game with Lake Mary to make their case for a higher ranking. They would love to lock in their current #2 seed in Region 4.

Pine Crest finally has their full squad back and they have begun to roll. Big wins over Belen and Columbus, and the road trip to Community could decide a higher seed. They are currently at #7, but I see them popping all the way to #3.

Oak Hall went 3-0 on the week against lesser teams and will likely run the table. The #2 seed is pretty much a lock in Region 1 if they aren’t upset along the way.

Bishop Verot went 3-1 on the week, but was tripped up by Belen, so they move down. Gulf Coast at home is the only test left for them.

Oxbridge was off last week, and has national power Bullis this week. The earlier season win over Pine Crest is not helping very much with the FHSAA, which has them ‘second team out’ right now, although last week’s results by the teams ahead of them might be beneficial to their getting in. What works against them is the last two Florida teams on the schedule are weak this year. If there’s a huge surprise coming this season in a team missing out, this could be it.

Montverde has really struggled with the better teams on the schedule this season, as seen by their loss to St. Edward’s last week. Two road games to finish the season and a tough first round no matter who they are paired with.

Belen’s win over Bishop Verot gets them back into the Top 15.
