FLN Girls 1A Top 10 for the Week Ending 3/27/22!

Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in , , , .

Two weeks left in the regular season and one week to make a move for District seedings! Some schools are playing some tough opponents and others are looking to get healthy. The out-of-state games have continued, and anticipation is starting to grow for the playoff season.

One small change in the top half of the poll and towards the bottom, as Jensen Beach earned their promotion.

American Heritage-Delray played national powers last week and I don’t have all the results, hence the record reflecting only one game. Either way, they remain #1 as I don’t heavily weigh games against national powers, since so few of our teams get their shot at that level. They host Boca Raton this week in a game that should be very reflective on Boca.

Lake Highland beat Pine Crest 10-8 at home and that result pretty much cements the #2 and #3 rankings are in line. Benjamin split the week at 2-1, but the 7-goal loss to St. Thomas drops them one spot, as Episcopal School of Jax went undefeated last week. ESJ hosts LHP tomorrow and that now looks like a heck of a contest. They also have three more games scheduled this week, including hosting a hungry Gulf Breeze on Friday.

6-9 stay the same, as Out-of-Door Academy continued their undefeated season with two more wins and will face their own out-of-state matchup Tuesday, plus Wiregrass Ranch on Thursday. St. Stephen’s Episcopal beat Riverview-Sarasota and look like they are off this week.

Bishop Moore is an interesting example of trying to see how the FHSAA is handling things. 7-4 on the year against a strong schedule (ranked 5th by FHSAA in SOS), with close losses to Plant, Ponte Vedra, Hagerty and ESJ (all by 1 goal!). Ranked 17th in 1A by the FHSAA 3/22 ranking, 9th in MaxPreps as of 3/22 and #5 in LaxNumbers. I tend to fall between the two camps, SOS really matters but you need to win one or two of them too. Of all the schools here, this is the one that could get hot and go on a roll, but they have the issue of LHP in their District. Right now they are an easy at-large bid, but the FHSAA ranking is a red flag for other regions. They beat Plant Saturday, so getting the big win is starting to happen. The last week sees them finish with Steinbrenner and Bartram Trail, so it will work itself out by then.

South Fork solidified their ranking at 9 with wins over Palm Beach Central and St. Edward’s, both on the road, and they host SJP and Pine School this week. Jensen Beach moves up to the #10 slot with their win over St. Edward’s and King’s Academy’s loss to Pine Crest drops them back out. Calvary Christian (Ft Laud) gets into Consideration status after defeating SJP II and Cardinal Gibbons last week.
