Well, here we go!

Berths in the Final Four at stake!

Region 1

Bartram Trail hosts Ponte Vedra

Another chapter in the rivalry up north, of programs with a state title and more final appearances amongst them.

They met on March 18th, with the Bears stopping the Sharks 13-8.

Bartram’s heavy firepower is a little deeper than Ponte Vedra’s, and while both played a solid schedule, Bartram’s was among the best in the state.

I see a similar result to the regular season and look for Bartram to return to the Final Four, looking to earn their 2nd state championship. Whether that means another potential family member . . . that’s an inside joke . . .

Region 2

Vero Beach hosts Hagerty

This is another one that has the potential to be epic. Vero Beach and Bartram pretty much traded the #1 ranking at FHSAA all season, but Hagerty has come on strong as the season progressed, and this will be a beauty.

Both teams played significant schedules but early in the season it was Hagerty coming away with the one-goal win.

Vero’s home field advantage isn’t insignificant, but the Huskies have to take something away from that first game.

I’ve been hinting that this one could go Hagerty’s way, so let’s see if it happens. But Vero also remembers last year’s run to the Final and is looking for a similar path that Saint Andrew’s completed last year, a dominant past program looking to regain its’ crown.

Region 3

Steinbrenner hosts Newsome

Talk about fascinating matchups. A dominant team playing a team that has given them fits the last two games, with the Warriors taking a 1-goal and 2-goal win in the regular season. These two teams seem to be made for playing each other.

Steinbrenner is ranked higher but both teams have similar strength of schedule and statistics. if the MaxPreps numbers are correct, the thing to look for is goalie play, as there was a difference in save percentage, although neither regular season game was high-scoring.

Is it the time for Steinbrenner’s junior class, or Newsome’s spread out roster?

Local fans, get out to that one! While we’ve had a few instances already of teams reversing a couple of close losses, and winning the 3rd game, I’m going for a repeat and look for Steinbrenner to get by, with their experience from winning the LHP game helping them.

Region 4

St. Thomas Aquinas hosts Boca Raton

It’s pretty amazing that last year’s state champion has been under the radar all season long, but somehow that happened. These two did not play this year, and Boca has been one of the big surprises of the season. I have seen both teams play.

Both teams have played excellent schedules, but STA’s is deeper with top teams, including a win over Bartram Trail, while Boca does not have that type of win.

I see the Raiders on their way back to potentially defending their crown next week.
