Florida Lacrosse Ranked Fourth in Final IWLCA Poll, Highest Since 2012

FLN: Finally, the no longer under-appreciated, ridiculously unseeded (well, that is STILL true since we can’t go back in time . . .) Gators get their earned props!

The Gators jumped six spots from their No. 10 ranking at the end of the regular season.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida lacrosse team finished their historic 2024 season ranked No. 4 nationally in the end of season ILWomen/IWLCA Division I Poll, which was announced Tuesday. This is the Gators fifth top-five end of season finish in program history, and their first since 2014. It is the highest final ranking for UF since 2012, when they finished ranked third.

Florida moved up six spots from their previous ranking of No. 10 on May 6, good for the largest increase of any team during that time. UF finished the season with a 20-3 overall record and 6-0 in the AAC. They earned their 12th regular season conference championship, and their 11th conference tournament championship (10th consecutive).

The Gators compiled a 7-3 record against ranked opponents, with three of them coming on the road. Florida had 12 double-digit victories, totaling nine games with 20 or more goals scored and 17 games of allowing under 10 goals. UF ranked first nationally in scoring offense (17.61 goals/game), points per game (26.48), scoring margin (+9.09), shot percentage (.550), and clearing percentage (.959), along with ranking second in free position percentage (.639), third in assists per game (8.87), sixth in draw controls per game (17.70) and seventh in scoring defense (8.52 goals allowed/game).

The Orange and Blue’s 20 wins and 20 game winning streak were both the highest in the country and in program history. Florida’s 2024 totals of 405 goals, 204 assists and 407 draw controls are all records for most in a Florida season.

2024 ILWomen/IWLCA Division I Poll – May 28

Boston College is the NCAA Champion for the second time in program history. The Eagles ran through Syracuse and Northwestern in the semifinal and championship rounds, respectively, most notably overcoming a 0-6 deficit in the title game.

They finished No. 1 in the final ILWomen/IWLCA Division I Poll.

Kayla Martello’s five-goal performance was the offensive catalyst for the Eagles, meanwhile, Shea Dolce was the late-game hero with a kick save to seal the win in the final minute.

Syracuse, Florida and Michigan round out the Top 5 in respective order, as Florida’s Championship Weekend run boosted them six spots.

The ILWomen/IWLCA Division I Poll was voted jointly by coaches throughout the country and members of the media.
