Gallagher Earns Career Milestone as the Spartans Preyed On the Lions

TAMPA, Fla. As the University of Tampa Women’s Lacrosse team roars past conference foe, the Saint Leo University Lions, Kelly Gallagher accomplishes a new milestone as she earns her 100th win as the program’s head coach.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The No. 7 Spartans opened up the game with the first shot finding the back of the net by Gracie Colombo. Three minutes later, Cece Colombo would pass the ball inside to find Sarah Hinkle to tack on another goal onto the scoreboard. Now having the advantage by two, Lexi Waters decided to get herself involved in the action, scoring her second goal of the season unassisted. The Spartans continued to knock on the Lion’s doorsteps as Georgia Glowaki would score back-to-back goals, with one from the free position spot. A few minutes later, Sophi Wrisk and Allie Peebles would help extend Tampa’s lead to 7-0 with a solo goal each. With the game clock winding down, Saint Leo finally got on the scoreboard at the 0:46 mark, but it would not shift the momentum away from Tampa as Peyton Howell scored a free position goal before the end of the first quarter.

Tampa continued to dominate the first half as they would score five out of the eight goals from the second quarter. Jenna Myhal would be the Spartan to continue the attack as she would find the back of the net off an unassisted goal. Following suit, Glowaki would tally her third goal of the game that would make her the first Tampa player to earn a hat trick as well as push Tampa into the double-digits. At the 5:34 mark and leading 10-1, Howell would bury a shot past the Lion’s goalie to make it her second goal of the game. While Saint Leo tried to cut into Tampa’s lead, Mary Kate Person would nab a man-up goal from the free position spot while Hinkle would score the last goal of the quarter off a pass by Gracie Colombo.

After the break, Tampa took a ten-goal advantage off an unassisted goal by Glowaki, making it her 20th goal of the season. However, the Lions started to crawl back as they would score three consecutive goals by three different players. With less than a minute left, Cece Colombo would find Myhal, who would score a goal in the lower left corner to send the Spartans into the final 15 minutes with a lead of 15-7. Tampa took command of the fourth quarter as three different Spartans would find the back of the net in the span of six minutes. This included Glowaki, who would become the game’s leading scorer, and Hinkle, who become the second Spartan to earn a hat trick for the night. While the Lions did tack on another goal at the 5:06 mark, a solo goal by Cece Colombo would seal the deal, winning the game 19-8 and giving Gallagher her 100th win.
