On March 2 — the day before Maryland came to South Bend, Ind., for the Fighting Irish’s stiffest test of the season so far — Notre Dame football coach Marcus Freeman made Jordan Faison stand up in front of the post-practice huddle.
“‘We’re going to go support one of our brothers. We’ll go out to the lacrosse game and watch the guys,’” Faison recalls Freeman telling the football team.
“So next thing you know, gametime rolls around and I see all the guys on the berm, and it’s pretty cool.”
Faison’s football teammates told him he had to score a goal for them. He ended up with three, the second of three hat trick performances through the first six games this season. He also notched the most highlight-reel tally of his debut spring, going behind the back on a nice feed from grad transfer and linemate Devon McLane.
“And the day before all the guys are telling me you’ve got to score a goal or whatever, and I’m, ‘like yeah, yeah I’ll try, I’ll try,’” Faison said. “Then next thing you know it’s the BTB and seeing all the guys go crazy, it just shows the brotherhood of the sports of the school here.”
