Women’s Lacrosse Cinches Spot in ASun Tournament with win over Stetson

DELAND, FL – Jacksonville Women’s Lacrosse claimed their sixth win in a row and clinched a berth to this year’s ASUN Conference Tournament with a 26-3 victory over Stetson on Saturday afternoon.

The game was never in much doubt as Jacksonville scored 12 goals in the first quarter while holding the Hatters to just one, and after adding another five goals in quarter number two, the halftime score would read a commanding 17-2 in favor of the ‘Phins.

The scoring in the first half was dominated by JU’s attack unit, with thirteen of the Dolphin’s 17 goals being scored by a player in the attack position. Leading the way in the half were Sarah ElmsJenny Kinsey and Alyssa Arnold who all had two goals apiece.

Moving into the second half the Dolphins would continue to score at will, notching four unanswered goals to start the third quarter. While Stetson would then respond with their third goal of the game at 6:27 in the third, that would be the extent of their second half scoring as the Dolphins would then hold them to zero goals for the remainder of the game.

Being up such a large sum the ‘Phins would then dial it back in the fourth quarter scoring only four goals with Hannah Carolan picking up two, and Brianna Samuels and Emily Seiter adding the other pair.

After four quarters the score would read 26-3 marking JU’s largest margin of victory of the season and their sixth win in a row. The win was also good to secure them a spot in this year’s ASUN Conference Tournament where they will likely enter as the one seed.

Looking at the game as a whole, Sarah Elms was able to grab five goals which tied the school record for most goals in a career at 186, previously held by Danielle Della Rocca. Elms will now look to snap that record and then some with at least four games remaining in the season.

Also leading the way offensively vs Stetson was Jenny Kinsey who added five points (3G-2A) and Alyssa Arnold who recorded four points (2G-2A).

The Dolphin defensive unit unit did not see much action but when they did, they were up to the task with Caroline Peterson and Maddie Sturgell combining for four caused turnovers and two ground balls.

Both Paige Pagano and Addy Tysdal made appearances in the cage for the ‘Phins with Pagano claiming the victory while making eight saves on ten shots faced. Tysdal added three more saves in the second half.

Hatters drop contest to No. 15 Jacksonville

DeLand, Fla. — The Stetson University lacrosse team dropped its sixth game in a row Saturday afternoon as the Hatters fell 26-3 to No. 15 Jacksonville at the ATC.

The Hatters (3-10, 0-3 ASUN) fell behind early as the 15th-ranked Dolphins got out to a 5-0 lead within the first 5:00 of action. Katie Kornacki cut into the early deficit as she found the back of the net to put Stetson on the board with 7:47 left in the opening quarter. JU then went on a 7-0 run until Saige Roe netted the Hatters second goal in the 2nd. JU held the Hatters to just two goals over the first 30:00 and led 17-2 heading into the break.

Out of the intermission, the Hatters defense continued to have trouble stopping the JU offense as the Dolphins put up five more goals in the 3rd quarter. Roe found nylon for a second time on the afternoon for her sixth multi-goal effort of the season, but it was not enough as Stetson was held off the board in the 4th while JU scored four more times to end the contest.

The Hatters will be back in action on Tuesday, April 19 as Stetson hosts Delaware State University at the ATC. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
