JU Women’s Lacrosse Defeats Virginia Tech to Begin 2022

Jacksonville, Fla. – The 18th ranked Jacksonville Women’s Lacrosse Program rang in the new year defeating Virginia Tech Saturday, 15-6, at Rock Stadium.

Sarah Elms and Molly Brock led the offensive attack for the Dolphins (1-0) with a hat trick each. Lauren PhillipsMegan PrescottMiya ScanlanMadeline Cloyd, and Mackenzie Boyle all found the back of the net once for Jacksonville. Addy Tysdal earned the win between the pipes for Jacksonville, stopping nine shots in the effort.

For Virginia Tech (0-1), Sarah Lubnow and Sophie Student had two goals each for the Hokies. Morgan Berman took the decision in goal, stopping nine shots in the defeat.

After falling behind 1-0 early, the Dolphins stormed back with two goals from Elms, and a goal each from Brock, Kinsey, Cloyd and Craft, to take a commanding 6-1 lead into the second quarter. Jacksonville carried its momentum into the second quarter, as Elms, Phillips and Scanlan found the back of the net, extending the Dolphin lead to eight, 9-1, entering the halftime intermission.

Coming out of the break, Boyle scored off an assist from Grace Hobson with 11:06 remaining in the frame. However, the Hokies would rattle off four consecutive goals to trim the Dolphin lead to five, 10-5, entering the final quarter.

The momentum swung back in JU’s favor five-straight scores, leading 15-5 with 7:28 remaining. Virginia Tech would score a goal late in the contest, but the Dolphins prevailed defeating the Hokies, 15-6.
