No. 4 Keiser women’s lacrosse held on late against the defending NAIA National Champions, Benedictine on the home field on Monday afternoon, 13-12.

First Quarter
Keiser 3, Benedictine (Kan.) 2

  • Madison Andrews wasted no time securing the all-time program leader in goals scored with the 131st goal of her career.
  • The Ravens countered with back-to-back goals to take the 2-1 lead with 9:41 on the clock.
  • Capitalizing on a turnover, Abbey Cannon found Chloe Foley on the fast break who tied the game with 5:36 on the clock.
  • Three minutes later Cannon found a wide-open Leanza Gibaud who scored her fifth of the season to put Keiser ahead going into the second.

Second Quarter
Keiser 7, Benedictine (Kan.) 4

  • Cannon grabbed her third assist of the game as Sydney Passaro finished a one-timer to put KU ahead 4-2.
  • Foley finished her second of the game with 12:31 left in the game to give Keiser a three-goal lead.
  • Benedictine brought it back within one at the 5:55 mark with consecutive goals to make it a 5-4 game.
  • With just 49 seconds left, Andrews doubled her goal total with a free-position goal.
  • Cannon scored her first of the game with 18 seconds remaining in the half to give Keiser a 7-4 advantage going into the break.
Third Quarter

Keiser 11, Benedictine (Kan.) 9

  • Talia Myers used two fake shots to make her move in front of the net and tally her first of the afternoon.
  • Following a Ravens goal, Andrews notched her hat-trick to put Keiser ahead 9-5 with 10:52 left to play in the quarter.
  • Kaylen Moore tallied her hat-trick goal with 9:55 left for the Ravens to bring the lead back within three.
  • Hayley Frew scored her first of the game with just over nine minutes left in the third from a free-position chance.
  • Myers followed it with her second of the game to put Keiser ahead 11-6 with 7:22 showing.
  • Benedictine ended the quarter with three consecutive goals to cut the Keiser lead down to two heading into the final 15 minutes of play.
Fourth Quarter

Keiser 13, Benedictine 12

  • Kaylen Moore continued the run for the Ravens with her fifth of the afternoon to cut the lead to just one.
  • With 11:45 left in the game, Andrews netted her fourth goal of the contest to give KU some insurance.
  • Benedictine would not relent, scoring just two minutes later.
  • Foley put home Cannon’s sixth assist of the game with 5:11 left to make it 13-11 in favor of the Seahawks.
  • Benedictine followed with a goal at the 2:30 mark to bring the lead back down to one for Keiser.
  • The Ravens would have a final shot of the game with four seconds left but a solid defensive effort forced the shot wide to secure the Keiser win.

KU Highlights

  • 134: Andrews is now the all-time program leader in career goals with 134 total.
  • 18: Keiser secured the offensive possessions with an 18-11 lead in draw controls. 
  • 7/6: Cannon led the Seahawks with seven points on the day, six coming on assists.
  • 7: Frew tallied seven draw controls to lead all players.
  • 6: Myers led all field players with six groundballs in the game.
  • 4: Andrews tallied a team-best four goals for Keiser to lead the way in the category.
  • 3: Myers and Rebecca Gibson each recorded three caused turnovers in the game.
  • 3/2: Cassidy Green earned her third win in net for Keiser making two saves in the context.
