Keiser’s Christian Tomei Honored as AAC Defensive Player of the Year

After an outstanding freshman season, Christian Tomei has been named the 2023 AAC Defensive Player of the Year. 

  • The Jupiter, Florida, native recorded a program record 151 saves for KU.
  • Leads the AAC in save percentage (67.4)
  • His save percentage this season is currently the best in program history. 
  • School record for wins in a season (13)
  • Played in all 14 games, and spent 721 minutes in goal. 
  • Allowed the fewest goals (73) among all qualified goalkeepers in the AAC. 
  • Tomei also added 35 groundballs, caused six turnovers, and an assist. 
  • Logged 10 games with 10+ saves. 
  • Tomei is the first athlete in KU history to be named AAC Defensive Player of the Year. 
  • On the year, Tomei has a program record 13 wins.
