Gaffney, S.C – In a hard-fought battle at Saints Field, the Saint Leo Lions faced a tough challenge #4 Limestone Saints. Despite a valiant effort, the Lions fell short as Limestone showcased their offensive prowess, falling a 15-24 in their season opener.

From the opening whistle, the contest promised excitement, with both teams exchanging goals in a high-scoring first quarter. Greg Palmer and Guy Bistrow led the charge for Saint Leo, but Limestone’s Zachary Terry and Tim Ladner responded swiftly, leaving the score tied at 5-5 after the first 15 minutes.

The second quarter saw Limestone take control, outscoring the Lions 7-1. Despite a power play goal by Guy Bistrow, Limestone’s Carter Brand, Zachary Terry, and Joel Mullen widened the gap, finishing the first half with a score of 6-12 in favor of the Saints.

Saint Leo showed resilience in the third quarter, with goals from Greg PalmerGuy Bistrow, and others. However, Limestone’s offense, led by Zachary Terry, remained relentless, maintaining their lead with a score of 11-17.

As the final quarter unfolded, Limestone continued to dominate, ultimately securing the 24-15 victory. Notable contributions came from Zachary Terry, who netted 10 goals for Limestone, and Carter Brand, who added four more.

The Lions fought until the last whistle, with goals from Owen WillsBen Baker, and Michael Flores, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Limestone’s offensive barrage.

Despite the setback, the Lions battled to the end. As they regroup and prepare for upcoming challenges, the Lions look to learn from this experience and come back stronger in the games ahead.

The Lions will return home to face Rockhurst on February 11th at University Turf Stadium. They look to bounce back and get their first win this season. The Opening faceoff is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
