Lynn Downs Kutztown in Tight Contest

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The 14th-ranked Lynn women’s lacrosse team held a two-goal lead at halftime and never allowed Kutztown to get any closer as the Fighting Knights earned a hard fought 13-11 win, Friday afternoon. The win is the seventh straight for Lynn as it improves to 9-1 on the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
– The Fighting Knights outshot the Golden Bears, 32-26, finished 16-of-22 on clear attempts and collected 12 draw controls
– Kutztown entered the afternoon at 5-0 and endured its first loss of the season
– The Fighting Knights led 8-6 at halftime after outshooting Kutztown, 19-13, following the first 30 minutes
– The Fighting Knights held three, four-goal leads in the second half
– Sophomore Krystin Johnson scored to open the third quarter at 10:09 for a 9-6 lead
– Senior Isabella Clark scored her second goal of the afternoon with 7:30 showing in the third as the hosts opened up a 10-6 lead
– Freshman Elizabeth Clagett closed the third quarter for Lynn with an unassisted tally for an 11-7 advantage as the game headed for the fourth frame
– The Golden Bears scored two goals to open the fourth and cur their deficit to 11-9 with 13:27 to play
– The Fighting Knights again extended their lead back to four goals, 13-9, when sophomore Malloy Jarka scored a woman-up goal with 11:18 left and Clark found the net for the third and final time with 6:03 to play
– Kutztown made one final push with goals at 4:55 and 4:19, but two turnovers inside the final three minutes helped seal the win for Lynn
– Graduate student Ciara Moorman had another impressive outing in goal for the Fighting Knights, stopping 12 shots, including three in the fourth quarter
– Moorman also caused one of the two turnovers from the Golden Bears inside the final three minutes
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
– Clark finished with three goals
– Johnson and Clagett scored twice and handed out one assist
– Johnson also led the Fighting Knights with four draw controls
– Jarka scored twice, scooped up three ground balls, caused two turnovers and had two draw controls

– The Lynn women return to the field on Wednesday, March 29 when they host Flagler at 4:00 pm
