Lynn Men: Fighting Knights Lose Thriller of a Game to Newberry

Boca Raton, Florida – After a tough loss to Florida Southern last Saturday, the Fighting Knights returned home to play the Wolves. After being down 10-7 in the final minutes, the Fighting Knights delivered two quick goals, but could not score a third to tie it.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Just :58 seconds in, the Fighting Knights struck first on a goal from Joseph MichalskiJalen Stanton had the assist on the first score of the game.
  • Newberry quickly put up two of their own to take a 2-1 lead.
  • Michalski scored again for Lynn with 6:41 left in the quarter from Matthew Ilchuk to tie it at two.
  • After another strike from the Wolves, Tommy Ruddo tied it at three in the second quarter on a beautiful behind the back goal from the left side. Newberry led 5-3 at half.
  • Caleb Wells scored for Lynn while down 6-3 to put Lynn within two.
  • With two more Wolves goals scored and down four, Michalski scored his hat trick goal to put the scoring at 8-5.
  • In the final minute in the third and down three, Thomas Murray tallied two goals for the Fighting Knights to end the quarter trailing 8-7.
  • Two more goals for the Wolves had them leading 10-7 with 9:23 to go in the game.
  • After seven minutes of no scoring, Wells scored again for Lynn with 1:46 left from Ruddo to only be down two.
  • Xander Cosenza scored for the Fighting Knights with :48 seconds left to only trail the Wolves by one.
  • With the game almost over and 3.6 seconds left in the game, Ilchuk fired the ball just wide of the Wolves’ net as Lynn lost 10-9.
  • Michalski led the Fighting Knights in points and goals with three. He also had five shots on goal.
  • Wells and Murray both had two goals.
  • Ruddo had a goal and an assist.
  • Cosenza had a goal on three shots on goal.
  • Colin Casey had 11 saves on 21 shots.
  • Lynn went 14 for 22 in faceoffs.
