Saints Knock Off Top-seeded Falcons in the PBC Semis

BOX SCORE

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Trace McDonald scored four goals and added an assist to help lead Flagler College to a 10-6 win over the University of Montevallo in a Peach Belt Conference Tournament semifinal Friday afternoon at the Track & Field/Lacrosse Stadium.

Flagler, the No. 4 seed, improved to 7-8 as it won its second game against Montevallo in the last six days (14-13 overtime win April 27). The Saints will face the winner of the Lander University-Alabama-Huntsville game, which is currently being played, in Sunday’s championship game at 1 p.m. (Central). Montevallo, the No. 1 seed, ended its season with a 9-6 record. It’s the second year in row Montevallo has lost to Flagler in the PBC semifinals.

The Saints trailed 5-2 early in the second quarter when Geraint Shaw found the back of the net with 13:17 left in the half, which started a string of seven consecutive goals by Flagler. McDonald, the PBC Offensive Player of the Year, scored three times in that stretch, including the equalizer (5-5) with 10:56 left in the second quarter.

Luke Burton gave the Saints their first lead as he scored off of a Shaw pass with 4:45 left in the first half. McDonald scored again with 1:29 remaining.

Griffin Moore and Colten Reynolds scored the only goals in the third quarter, and Tyler Douglass capped the scoring with 10:09 left in regulation.

Nate Lehr made five of his nine saves in the third quarter alone to keep the Falcons off the scoreboard. He finished with a .600 save percentage. Matt Mitrega and Ori Imirie each collected four groundballs.

Matthew Boas scored three goals and tallied two assists for Montevallo. Cole Tenger added four groundballs while Alex Egorshin tallied 12 saves.
