Men’s Lacrosse Takes Down Saint Ambrose in NAIA Quarterfinal Round

Keiser men’s lacrosse advanced to the semifinal round of the NAIA Invitational Tournament today with a win over No. 8 Saint Ambrose. Four different Seahawks recorded hat tricks, and Christian Tomei recorded 15 saves.
Keiser 4, Saint Ambrose 2
- Keiser fell into a two-goal deficit early on and was slow to come out of the gates on offense.
- Saint Ambrose scored two goals in the first five minutes of the game.
- The Keiser offense roared to life with under five minutes left in the first quarter as AJ Badik scored the first Seahawk goal of the day with 4:17 on the clock.
- 90 seconds later, Jack Gillen scored with a Ryan Rundle assist to tie the game.
- With 1:15 on the board, AJ Badik scored unassisted on a man-up opportunity to give Keiser a lead they would hold for the rest of the game.
- With just four seconds left in the quarter, Cole Stassi scored unassisted.
Keiser 9, Saint Ambrose 4
- AJ Badik completed a hat trick with a goal just 51 seconds into the second quarter, Vincent Cerasuolo assisted on the play.
- Three minutes later, SAU would break the Keiser scoring run with a goal.
- Cole Stassi answered with an unassisted goal with 9:05 on the clock.
- Braeden Niemy scored his first goal of the day three minutes later with an assist from Ryan Rundle.
- 30 seconds later, Josten Ucros scored unassisted to give Keiser a five-goal lead.
- With 4:11 showing on the board, Saint Ambrose’s Patrick Flynn scored to cut the KU lead down to four.
- Jack Gillen ended the half with an outstanding move to the goal and scored with just two seconds showing on the scoreboard. This would give Keiser a five-goal advantage going into the locker room.
Keiser 14, Saint Ambrose 5
- The second half began with AJ Badik scoring his fourth goal of the day unassisted on a man-up chance, just 26 seconds into the second half.
- SAU answered four minutes later with a goal that brought the Keiser lead down to five.
- In response, Cole Stassi scored his hat trick goal with 9:59 on the board, courtesy of a Josten Ucros assist.
- With 6:55 on the board, Vincent Cerasuolo scored unassisted.
- Just seven seconds later, Braeden Niemy scored with a Josten Ucros assist.
- The final goal of the quarter came when Ashton Harris scored unassisted with 4:58 showing on the scoreboard.
Keiser 19, Saint Ambrose 7
- Harris scored again to kick off the fourth quarter, with 13:13 remaining in the game.
- Braeden Niemy finished his hat trick one minute later, with help from a Stassi assist.
- With 8:55 on the clock, Jack Gillen completed a hat trick of his own, with a Ryan Rundle assist.
- Rundle added an unassisted goal with 5:09 remaining.
- Saint Ambrose scored a goal with 3:52 on the clock.
- Two minutes later, James MacGilvray hit the net with a Brent Young assist to give KU its 19th goal.
- SAU would score its final goal with 45 seconds left in the contest.
- Keiser outshot the Fighting Bees 58-37.
- Cam Provines went 13-19 on faceoffs.
- AJ Badik recorded his second four-goal game of the year.
- Badik, Braeden Niemy, Cole Stassi, and Jack Gillen all recorded hat tricks.
- Christian Tomei recorded 15 saves and spent 53 minutes in the net.
- Ryan Rundle scored a career-high four points.
